Something about the oxygen sensor heater disabling some monitor which prevents the check engine light from coming on in the event you have a real emission problem. Not specific to our cars, it was part of large recall campaign that bmw Canada issued |

I entered my VIN at NHTSA.gov and was pleased to see "0 unrepaired recalls associated with this vin". Vehicle was purchased end of Dec.
BMW.com does indicate that a software update is available for my vin that can be downloaded via USB. Version indicated in my car is MB 007.005.013 and the updated version is MB 001.062.040, which "restores playback of a CD/DVD from the point at which it was paused". I could hardly contain my excitement. Owner downloadable software updates look to be multimedia related only. I was hoping for a free extra 25 hp that BMW had managed to find from somewhere. I suspect that if such upgrades ever do become available they will not be free. It will be interesting to see whether power and torque figures increase for the next M3. Early data from the tuners does suggest the s58 has much untapped potential with respect to software maps. |

Option 1 would be to check via e-sys Option 2 is the profile export method Take a blank fat32 usb drive and plug it into the usb port in the armrest or near the front charge pad. Either works. Export your driver profile via idrive to the usb Take the usb to your computer, open it up and you will see a .mpd file Open with notepad or any text editor You should see a string like this in the file... <i-step>S15A-19-11-540</i-step> That's your software version. |

I have an ECU remap on my car ( OPF OFF and some more HP ) I'm afraid that the update will restore the DME/UCU as stock . For you guys it will be possible ?or the update software will solve only a specific matter ? Thanks |

No it's the update that caused the stop sale back in Nov, it's just that cars that had already been delivered are now getting the update as part of the RIS.

Thank you for that clarification. I wasn't keen on losing my remap. Now that the car is being shipped from Europe to the US, it would be difficult to restore the remap should it be overwritten.

I had my car in a few months ago and they told me it as because of something related to the back up camera being dim? I don't know, I didn't really care or pay attention, it was in for other things anyways.

My issues
I took delivery on my X3M Comp on 8/29/19. It was fine until break in service then the problems began...
Drivetrain malfunction - dealer reset (code was for turbo failure) Drivetrain malfunction again - dealer took car for 2 weeks. Replaced turbos, same malfunction. Turns out it's software needed reprogrammed with bmw. Did that, I got car back. Drivetrain malfunction again - official new software had been released after my issues, they updated that. Engine oil warning - they filled car with 7liters but car kept having warning. They redid with only 6liters and it's fine. lots of headaches and my car was in for service for a total of about 3 weeks. But all is good now! |

Mine is in the shop today for the software update /recall. So hopefully I get a nice summary later on what they actually did.
On a side note...I was put into a x3 30i as a loaner. I hate to sound stuck up/elitist but my goodness. The minute I sat in it I missed my x3m. The seats were fine. It had sport seats so that felt familiar First thing I noticed was the new dash layout with I drive 7. Not for nothing...I think I drive 6 is better. It's laid out better and I don't feel like I'm clicking and scrolling endlessly (maybe if I had more time with it then it might get easier) the virtual cockpit. Big thumbs down. It's messy...and no gauges is no bueno. I need dials....round tachometer with the needle going counter clockwise. Base sound system...the steering is light...and numb. The steering wheel feels comically thin compared to the M sport steering wheel The engine has some decent pep for a four banger. I will give it that. The rest just feels lackluster. And good lord it was throwing codes for busted driving assistance systems. The blind spot monitoring is bugged out Ok rant over. TLDR my x3m is getting its recall done and I got a crappy loaner |

So my service advisor informed me that the recall was to update the software for the DME. it has nothing to do with engine related. It does not impact the mechanics and performance of the vehicle. It's specifically to make life easier for the technicians to identify issues with the vehicle.
On the downside I had to reprogram my shortcut buttons lol. Got so used to having them programmed I forgot where to find everything in I drive |
