Engine seems to be the N55, it has 2979 cm3 and 10.2 : 1 compression ratio.

M2 will most likely have the same engine and tuning. Which is perfect for BMW from many angles: more power than 1M, less weight. But tuners won't be very happy, it is basically an N55 but already maxed out on stock turbo.

No it doesn't and no you don't. If the M badge wasn't on it, you wouldn't give two shits.

The design cues are interesting, i think the dual color front fangs is growing on me and suits the mirror caps well.
for the rear diffuser, the two colors look great even if the original idea probably came from the new mustang diffuser.
nonetheless, if i needed to have a suv, if the price is adequate, it could be a nice addition to my lot :- )

the sad thing is that the specs of this car are where the standard X4 Xdrive40 should be. There shouldn't be an M. Then there should be the M above this with 4-500hp

is an X3 version in the works?
Yes, and a true M reportedly with the S55. I ran the acceleration curves of the G01 (as the new X3 model is named) in the 40i and M formats on the 'X3 Acceleration Files - Master List!' [ 'http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1149189 ]. The G01 should have 100 kg less weight and an improved Cd from around 0.35 to 0.32, or so it is hoped. The X3 40i in the rough simulation has top spd unlim 160, 0-60 mph in 4.9 sec and 1/4 mile time 13.4 sec. The X3 M with its 425 SAE HP has top spd 169.8, 0-60 4.6 sec, and 1/4 mile around 13 sec.

Many expect a release Fall 2016 as a 2017 model year. Direct competitors are the Audi SQ5, the new Mercedes GLC when it is released in the AMG line, and possibly the Jaguar F-Pace S-Type with 380 HP, so it seems BMW should be interested in getting this model out.

I ran the the X4 M40i in the acceleration simulation and will try to get the graph posted this afternoon.

Those that don't know better think it's a true ///M, but are not as impressed. As they shouldn't be, because it's not an ///M, period. In fact I've had several friends say things like "not really impressed with the ///M (insert model)". I've had to clarify that it's not a "true ///M" and is all marketing. That's never received well, they all comment on how it hurts the brand. I agree, it waters down expectations of what a true ///M is and makes any car that isn't an ///M but wears the badge look like a wannbe.

People don't like to be fooled, once they learn the difference they are all turned off.

A Nice pseudo Suv that is not good offroading, not that pratical, not that sporty and not that good looking but I guess that is what everybody asked for... Now that you have put some some money there bmw how hard would it be to bring the 340i F31 to north american market?

All you people are overreacting get over your M badge. Bmw is using the M ( insert model here ) and that's perfectly fine for them if they feel it's a good business proposition. They can find a buyer in every trim. This do not dilute the M brand at all. It only makes it better. It prepares people that hope 1 day they can get a real M.

This model that I see presented is an excellent interpretation of the future. More power, more efficiency, more technology, and better handling characteristics.

Stop wining people...

Because the difference between M240i and M2 might not be so iimpressive...

Im not a fanboy for the M badge on it I just like the way it looks, but unlike you, I'm not bitter about the M badge so I don't have the cloudy judgement that you have. It probably doesn't matter to you what it looks like because from your statement it seems you can't see pass the badge.
