I hate hose black "buttons" under the wheelarches! They are so visible from any angle. X1,X3,X5 and X6 with sport packets. All of them have the same problem when not painted in black. For example Audi could never let something like this reach production. I hate Audis though.
BMW... please. |

Judging by the looks of the tires...they could be a full winter set. Maybe these models had sport tires equiped/changed and BMW didnt want to take the chance driving the X3ers in the weather.

Going on Saturday--my lady scored some major points by buying me auto show tickets.
I hope it isn't too crazy and I can sit in both this and the 1M...

Better wheels on the way
In response to the comments about the ugly wheels, I'm a couple of days away from ordering a X3 35i M Sport package and it comes with 19 inch M wheels (style 369M). They're not my favourite wheels, but nicer than the ones above.
I'm actually in a bind... I'm trying to decide whether to get a fully loaded (every option) X3 35i but the dealer is anxious to move some X5's and is willing to give me a great deal on a 2011 X5 M Sport Package. I'm struggling to decide which to go with. X3 35i (Tecnology, Premium, Executive, Dynamic Comfort, M Sport Packages and Heads Up display) vs. X5 35i (Technology, Premium, M Sport, Premium Sound Packages) Canadian packages. Help!!! |

Virtually nil price difference. The X3 is $76K and the X5 is $86K but I'm pretty sure the dealer will reduce the X5 by 7 or 8 thousand. So not much difference.

What things are important to you? Size? Transmission? Engine (are they both the same)? Styling? Gadgets? Which looks better to you? Color differences? Any particular transport requirements?
Don't the packages on the X3 add up to more features than the X5 set? Absent any specific needs/desires you have, it seems unlikely that you're gonna go home and really dislike your choice -- well, unless you over think it and do "the grass is greener" thing and always figure you woulda liked the one you didn't choose more.

Yes, the packages on the X3 add up to more features than the X5. For sure. I'm leaning towards Carbon Black for either model. I agree at the end of the day I'm going to be very pleased. But whichever one I choose I expect to have for a long time so want to get this right. Until this morning the X5 wasn't even on my mind. But the dealer called and they really want to move this X5 so I'm trying to figure it out. The X5 doesn't have Dynamic Damper Control but the X3 does. Given the fact both are M Sport paks I would imagine it would be nice to have the damper control for normal driving. I can picture the X5 being very stiff with the Sport tuned suspension. Based on other threads on here you can opt to delete Sport suspension on the X3 which I would do given the fact it would have the damper control. I also like the thought of the same engine pushing the smaller X3. |

one thing to remember ... the current model X5, which is the second generation E70, was introduced in 2006. Although it got a facelift in 2010 its still basically a design that was started in 2006. I think I read there will be a new X5 in 2012 or 2013. The X3 on the other hand is a brand new design and has a whole new styling to it, which in my opinion looks very sleek and modern - especially the downward sloping lines on the sides. I've had mine for two weeks and have had many people come up to me and comment about the look - its something new and different and something they haven't seen before.
I'm sure the X5s are great, don't get me wrong, but I like the fresh new look and feel of the X3. if, as you say, you plan on keeping your car for a long time, and if they re-style the X5 in 2012/2013, what you would end up with is the "old" model X5 for many years when others will be driving the "new" version X5s. kind of like the iPads, I really want one, but am going to tough it out for a few more months to get the new version (now if you asked this question on the X5 forum you would probably get a totally different answer) Last edited by gregoryw1; 02-23-2011 at 10:24 PM.. |

Good point. Have spent most of the night thinking about this, and getting a few helpful comments from yourselves, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with the original plan and go with the X3. I really don't need the extra space of the X5, and like you said there's something novel about getting a fresh model of something vs. driving the 'old' X5 in a couple of years. Now I just need to figure out which colour I want. Leaning towards the carbon black. We'll see. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Just confirmed by a friend who owns a Q5. The rear seats of Q5 is not adjustable and this feature is only available for Q7 at this moment.

someone may have already pointed out (I haven't read through the whole thread) but that silver M Sport is a 28i, not a 35i. The 18" wheels and halogen headlamps are 28i features.
