Apologies if this is an uniformed question, but if one orders one via the build-to-order program, would the Service Dept of a delaership treat it differently than a car bought at that dealership? (ie, as if it were bought at another dealership? Some dealerships give owners less perks if so....)

So in a nutshell, no your dealer won't treat you any differently, because you will have purchased it through them in the first place.

No stick available due to demand. I had a 6 speed manual M sport 2008 X3 in AW and loved it (my wife drive it most of the time and she loved it). Diesel cost a ton of money to get EPA testys done so BMW is not sure on that one yet because the gas mileage isnt as big a diiference anymore since the new (turbo) motor and the 8 speed auto. The diesl X5 is only 1 mpg better on the highway than the X5 35i with the turbo and 8 speed auto. Mind you the diesel gets the old 6 speed auto and there are no plans to have it use the 8 speed auto anytime soon. The price with the same options as opposed to last years model went down $3,100 on the 28i and $1,000 on the 35i. For all of you said you would buy it if it was a lot less I hope to see you at the dealershps soon. The car is larger but lighter so the car is faster in base 28i trim than it was in the old 30si trim. The 8 speed auto has a lot to do with the improved acceleration as well. I cant wait to get these in as I Have have sold a few already. As for the ordering it will be very fast turn around. I Had a customer order an X5 50i last month and from the day I placed the order in 15 days the car was on out lot. A week to build and a week to get delivered to the dealership. Amazing and a HUGE PLUS for everyone involved.
