So when I first popped in the AA non-resonated midpipe, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. Tone was great at full-throttle (or as close as I wanted to get while still under break-in), but otherwise it sounded stock. However, I just got my Dahler exhaust flap controller installed, and it makes a huge difference. With flaps pegged open it's much louder all the time. Conclusion: if you're gonna do a midpipe, you NEED to do a flap controller as well, if your goal is to "get louder". Cold start is simply hilarious in a parking garage, I need to make a video. Tunnels and underpasses are fun also.

Well well well what do we have here. I don't dare install this until break-in and break-in service is finished. 600 more miles to go. (In case this post comes back to haunt me one day, I should say I will never track this car. This is only for the lulz on empty roads.)

Break-in is over, break-in service is done, and the party has officially begun! JB4 is now installed and on Map 1 (with the +3 PSI boost; unfortunately Map 1 is the most you can do with 91 octane without straight-piping the whole thing). Since this is a piggyback and not a traditional tune, the speed increase isn't as obvious as those would be, but it's still noticeable when you get on the gas.
Install was interesting. The TMAP sensor at the bottom of the engine is in a notoriously horrid location. Just forget about reaching it from the top, you need two hands because it won't fully come apart without inserting a tool underneath the clip. Instead, get at it from below. You don't even have to jack the vehicle up, just remove the two bottom panels which is dead easy. The unit itself should be placed in the brake booster cubbyhole. I chose to zip-tie both ends to the harness running through there, which is plenty secure. You also need to run an OBD2 cable into the cabin. On the X3M there is no spare firewall hole to do this, nor does it make sense to run it on the door jamb over the painted area. But what you can do is run it next to the hood latch cable. The existing hood latch grommet is sealed, so you have to pull it out and cut it off. You can use a traditional rubber grommet as a replacement. |

Great looking car. I don't see Signal Green available for the X3M on the BMW individual website. So there are available colors other than the ones that pop up as available?

I was using the BMW USA Individual site that I posted in my post. Is the one above more current and the best one to use? Are ALL of those colors available that show as possibility on the X3M? That is way more than the other site.

Nice. Good to know other X3MC's are in the area, I think I've maybe seen 2 others. I haven't rolled up next to you yet always in the opposite direction (Fremont and DeAnza), can always see the car from far away given the color. Mines boring white.
I'll toss some deuces up if I see you around. Interested in getting a closer look with the JB4. |

Well that only took 9 months. The CA DMV functions about as well as everything else in our wonderful excuse for a state government. |

I love your color!!! However, those legacy plates we have in Cali look brown up close. I would get a reviver plate so much cleaner.
