Damn. You're right, we wait this long, and shit happens. I hope it all works out for you in the end.

So according to the dealership, I don't have a recall. I ran my VIN in the US site and it showed 0 recalls. But when I ran my it in the UK site it showed the recall…fuck. I only have 800 miles on this car

My biggest concern is that they apparently have to open the engine up down to the mains - it's massively invasive. These engines are built by robots to precise tolerances, and I have huge concerns about some local dealer tech tearing the S58 apart down to its core. No way that works out well for BMW. It'd be a far cry easier to replace the engine entirely, but massively more expensive. |

First the crank hub, now this. Are we able to return cars we've owned less than a week?

So to be clear....
This means extra boosted launches and uphill 6krpm+ runs? Am I the only one who finds this the slightest bit funny? I mean they're literally issuing a recall to do what in many shops books would be an engine rebuild. We're talking a 3-4wk minimum down time. It's essentially easier to just get a crate motor dropped in. Last edited by Bimmersandmopars; 10-08-2021 at 11:58 PM.. |

You are right, without knowing the details it is hard not to think that this is not good at all, but hopefully, things are made more clear within the next few days..
At least this is just not an "X3/4M" thing, as the issue also involves the new M3/4s which will create A LOT of visibility and noise for BMW depending on how they go on to handle this....so my guess is that they will want to handle this the right way and do the right thing for the customer. At least I can hope so, we will see. Quote:

It is what is, my guy just confirmed that mine is part of the recall. He's going to ask the shop guys what their gut says around the notional fix for what's that worth.
Nothing to do but wait and see now. But as others have mentioned I'm not in love with the idea of a torn down and rebuilt engine for sure unless it's done in properly equipped facilities and comes with an extended warranty. On the bright side if it turns out to be bad, I already have been eyeing a return to the X5M! |

Does anyone have an idea on the process they'd take? If it's part of the batch will they just replace regardless or will they inspect and then take action? Either way though it sounds like they've got to strip it?
