The M40i is my wife's daily drive and she liked the chrome and black grill on the M sport 30i. She didn't like the M40i at all with the Cerium grey trim and to satisfy me with the fastest X3 at the time, I promised to fix the aesthetics of the car to her liking getting rid of Cerium grey or "matte brown" she calls it and painting the mirror caps body colour and fitting a 30i chrome/black grill.

I agree with her, Cerium is bizarre.

I actually liked the Cerium. I disliked the ease of how it would show water spots and then be so stubborn to get rid of them. Thus I swapped it all out.

The dealer had a white 7 Series M Sport on the showroom floor with these (643M) wheels and I thought wow!! these will work on the M40i. They've got a bit more offset than the X3 wheels, great concave and they're 1/2" wider and with 10mm spacers all round, the fit's perfect. Pretty well replicates stock X3 20" wheels with 15mm spacers.

They look factory as they're similar to the new X5 wheels and doesn't look as if I've fitted the car with an oddball variant.

Yep, it's a total PITA to keep clean!

Guys, if I wanted to run 275/40R 20 on the front...what size spacers would I need to avoid rubbing?

Yes, with the stock staggered set-up using the 699M Style wheels. It came with 245/45R20 103 W in front and 275/40R20 106W in the back. I like to have 275/40R 20 106W on all 4 corners.

My winter fronts are 255 and they’re as close as you’d want to get to the strut, so if you’re going 20mm wider means you’d be another 10mm closer, so i’d say you need minimum 10mm spacers.

I think 275s might be too wide for the rims though, even my 255s look a bit wide.

Ah, yes, I would need new rims. Your point is well taken. I can always move my rears to the front and make note where the rub is and figure out what spacer I would need.

After installing spacers has anyone noticed a difference in steering??

I recently installed Future Classic 15mm spacers all around on my 2020 BMW X3 M40i. I'm runnin 255/40 ZR21 Y in front and 265/40 ZR21 Y in the rear. I noticed that the steering feels a lot heavier, especially on the freeway. I think this is understandable as I'm going from 19" wheels to 21" but I was just curious if anyone else noticed this difference.

Thank you!
