Does anyone have instructions on removing the rear bottom trim (aka diaper)?

Did anyone think of wrapping these parts instead of painting? |

Did you also paint silver trim pieces below the doors?

No, but they are a total bitch to remove. Use a trim tool, lots of clips top and bottom. I replaced my silver ones with black factory ones, ended up breaking the silver ones a bit, but they're cheap, like $30 each. Buy new ones in black or colored the way you want and then replace the ones you have in case you break them taking them out. Takes a lot of force.

Left side is bmw part number 51-11-7-421-483 and right side is 51-11-7-421-484 This morning they are showing for $30.42 each. In other markets the base is lower then we have in the states and it comes with the black rather then the silver. My advice is buff out the new parts a bit and a couple thick coats of wax, they get chewed up a bit with road debris. My car is phytonic blue, I changed out the grill and these bumpers for black, looks better in my opinion. I was particularly proud of this parking spot at sfo a couple weeks back so I took a picture, but it shows the mods well… |

From what I understand it’s some plastic rivets on the bottom. Haven’t attempted yet, thinking of leaving that silver to match the other silver bits around the bottom of the car.

Yeah, I took out the 5 rivets but it still attached to the grill above which i don't know to pull out.
My plan is going all black, imo... those grayish/silverish painted parts makes the car look cheap. here is a link on how to detach and wrap the door trim https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s91LI-xeG4c |

Possibly reviving this thread... Has anyone removed the impact strips w/ bumper on?
Hi All,
I picked up a CPO X3 3.0 Xd recently and am doing some mods, of course. I would like to paint the Impact Strips gloss black. I hope to pop them off from the wheel well side of the bumper (once wheels and liner are removed) WITHOUT removing the front bumper. Has anyone tried this? Hoping I don't need to buy the tool and use it once... Thanking you in advance! Joe |

If I recall correctly, there are about four or five clips on top and bottom on the car side. No clips on the trim side. I think you work your way from the inside out. Might be helpful to warm them up a bit at first to get the plastic a bit more pliable. A trim tool and patience are your friend.
