Question: I’ve hardwired V1 (through DIY posts) into the light cluster in both my previous E46M3 and E90M3. It worked awesome and turned on with ignition and turned off immediately with engine off.
My question is why am I reading about the “new” mirror tap option that leaves radar detector on for minutes after engine off? Isn’t there still the option to tap a wire for ignition-on, engine shutdown-off, without leaving detector on for minutes after shutdown? |

Thanks everyone for the help with this one. I have an LCI 2022 X3MC and followed the pics posted by denniss which worked perfectly.
The V1 gen 2 was getting rear laser false alarm due to the gesture control laser behind the sunroof controls. I covered that with black masking tape and disabled gesture controls in iDrive. Disabling in iDrive alone does not shut the laser off. You can verify by using your phone camera. I'll make the tape job look better later. 😁 |

I also didn't want to disable the laser on my V1 so I turned off GC and installed this CF piece to cover the sensor for GC.

In my Cayman I ended up running all the way to the fuse box. Still debating installing one in the X3MC

I didn't think it was worth messing with the mirror area on my X3MC. It was easy to run a wire from the passenger side fuse box up along the window trim.
With the cameras and all in the mirror I didn't want to take that apart. |

Did this a couple weeks ago. Super easy to tap the mirror. The plastic covers all easily popped off; no breakage. Pushed the 2 pins in, snapped panels back; done. The location is definitely cleaner looking but at the same time sorta annoying to have to look way up in the corner when I want to see what it says. Mixed feelings. I’ll leave it there.

So I just installed my V1G2 with Mirror Tap today, was not as easy as I thought, for me anyway lol. Probably because I was too worried about breaking the plastic while removing the housings around the mirror.
I ended up putting black electrical tape over the laser sensor/emitter. Question: Are we for sure all that sensor does is gesture control? Just want to know if I’m also disabling some other utility or feature by covering up that sensor? For example, is it also part of some kind of interior movement car alarm thing.

I use the Blendmount for my '23 X3Mc. I have the Escort Max 360c with the M2 dash cam and don't have any sensors covered up...no issues at all with it. It's nice running the radar detector, Waze, and the Escort realtime map all together at the same time.

Here is my mirror tap installation of V1G2. I thought about disabling rear laser, but if that sensor on roof cluster is only used for gesture control I’m ok with covering it as I have no plans use that feature. Anything I’d use gesture control for I can use my fingers on the steering wheel buttons.

I already installed a FitcamX on the rearview connector. Can I mirrortap a Uniden R7? Will it have sufficient power? Or will I blow it up?
