I bought my car of the lot and was about to get I think about 1500 more off than I had been offered for any custom build (but I was only willing to do it because the car was VERY similar to what I would've custom ordered, which I knew prior to my trip to the dealer based on online inventory searches). So I wouldn't say it's crazy to think you might get a better deal on a car on the lot, but I do think it is wrong to suggest you can't get a discount on a custom build. That said, some dealers may have little allocation left and just may be trying to eek out as much profit as possible from what they have.

I hear you but I just don't buy that a dealer is motivated to lose money on a car they have on the lot. That's what that say but it flies in the face of economic behavior.

If they offer a better deal on a car on their lot, it's because some other entity is making up for it. And that's money you could probably get on an order, if you shop hard enough.

The car selling business is built on lies, despicable business practices and manipulating buyers. Some lies, like this one, get repeated so frequently they become conventional wisdom. Like most wives' tales, repetition doesn't make them true.

Question

Looking to get a new X3 M40i.. currently in a 535 till 8/6. I owe two more payments. Is there any pullahead available? Any loyalty or other money available? Also what sort of MF/residuals are we working with on 15k/yr? Thank you!

P.S. The build I’m looking to get is attached. Anyone spec out something similar and care to share their deal?

In for a penny, in for a pound!
The one thing that irks me about building this vehicle is all the extra money that you have to pay for the suite of safety systems (Driving Assistance, DA Plus, Park Distance, etc), most of which are now coming as standard equipment on much lesser vehicles. Increasingly, auto reviewers are taking note of this and I imagine that BMW is getting some blowback. Wonder if they will make some of this stuff standard on the '19 models?

Definitely agree that's bad, but what's even worse is that you can't even order one with Driving Assistance currently.

The base DA package should come standard in this day and age. BMW likely don't include it so they can reduce the advertised base price and increase margins. I didn't custom order my X3 because of the inability to get DA/DA+ in a reasonable timeframe and just picked one off the lot.

I'm starting to realize why my sales rep pushed me to deposit right away on my x3. It was at another dealer in another province, and he said it was the only one he could find ANYWHERE with DA/DA+ packages prebuilt. It just happened to have those on top of the m sport line in white (which was the only reason he even considered it in the first place).

Now I'm kinda glad I did go prebuilt and not custom...

Terrible deal. That $4k+ out of pocket is rediculous.

Where can I find current money factors and residual values short of going to a dealer and asking for the sheet? Also, what incentives are available? I see Costco mentioned in posts, but I can’t find that on Costco’s website. Also, I’m a current BMWFS customer.

https://www.costcoauto.com/

That's Costco's auto site. I believe they get you invoice + a few hundred, but the X3 wasn't available in my area when I filled out the form.

The earlier costco posts were for a California-only discount which ended at the end of April.

This is the forum I used to find out mine for California, throughout the forum you can find quotes for different states:

https://forums.edmunds.com/discussio...and-prices/p25

The general consensus I have found is that residuals are: 56% @ 15k, 58% @ 12k, and 59% @ 10k and the current money Factor: .00156.

I got 59% residual with a money factor of .00156. I was very happy with this after I negotiated 11% off MSRP on my custom build.

Damn, 11%! That’s awesome. What rebates are included in that figure? I’m trying to come close to 10% total as we speak!

I posted a breakdown of everything here:

http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=372

The Costco discount is under the "discount" amount. Don't know what else it was made up of.

The first dealers initial offer was: $5,000 down at $820 a month. After lots of back and forth the second dealer offered $2,600 at signing for taxes/fees/first month and a monthly of $719.00.

Ahh I see why. Dealers are wayyyy more likely to deal on the 30s. It’s proving difficult to find one to play ball on a M40i. I’m gonna keep trying.

I can't speak to how much off MSRP you can get off an M40i, on an x30i I was able to get 10% off from a custom order. Additionally, this month there is 4,000 in rebates (2,000 USAA plus 2,000 BMW APR credit if you finance outside of BMWFS). In April when I made the order my rebates were expected to be 2,500, so a nice little bonus of 1,500. So in my case 17% off MSRP total (before TTL).

Question

I’m planning on ordering the following...

2018 BMW X3 M40i
- Carbon Black Metallic
- Black Vernasca Leather with blue stitching
- Grey poplar trim
- Executive package
- Premium package
- Adapative M suspension
- Wireless charging and WiFi Hotspot
- Apple CarPlay compatibility
- Harman Kardon surround sound system

MSRP: $63,920 (with destination)

By any chance does anyone have carbon black with the black leather and blue stitching? Does it go well together even though the stitching is a lighter blue? Any opinions?

Finally, is there anything you think I’m missing out on or anything anyone thinks I should know about the build above?

P.S. I purposely chose to not add any driving assistance stuff as I’ve had it all in the past and never used any of it.

I have the black leather with blue stitching and I think it looks absolutely beautiful. I got so many compliments on the Carbon Black exterior and on the entire interior.

I want to place an order soon. Here in Oregon I'm not getting quoted much in discounts or rebates--only the $1,500 for BMW financing. Do you think your $4k combined rebates are dealer specific? What do you mean outside BMWFS? Outside financing like USAA or a credit union? With which dealership are you working? I'm looking at an x30i M Sport Premium, Parking Asst Plus, Driving Asst Plus. Thanks!

I have the Carbon Black/Black leather blue stitching as well. It is an awesome combo and really makes the blue stitching "pop". This vehicle gets more 2nd glances than my last 2 S-Classes. The Carbon Black is tough to keep clean but when it is ..... wow!!!

Wondering if the following is a decent quote that I received through the Costco Auto program. Also, does anyone know if there's still room for negotiations through the Costco program or is it "haggle free"?

MSRP : $59,820
Quote : $54,210

(I should also be able to get the BMW Loyalty incentive which is possibly another $1500 off)

With the $1500 loyalty($52,710), that is 11.9% off. That is a good deal.

With that msrp you are in M40i territory, think about stepping up.
