Can't you do a 235 tire? Should sit fine on the 7.5 wide wheel

Update: I just don't know how to use websites properly. Looks like you can get the tires in that size according to the Nokian website...I just can't find anyone online that carries them.

Giving a rough assumption that they're around $250/tire, along with the 698M wheels, TPMS, etc. we're looking at about $3,500 for the set...and at that point, I don't know, I feel like I should just have the bigger wheels to keep it consistent year round. I don't need to plow through snow to get to a farm, I just need to be able to get to and from the suburbs of Chicago even when it's kinda shitty out.

Another alternative you can also look at is a 225/55/19 tire on the factory 19inch wheel. It is only 2mm larger. It's what I went with. They fit perfectly and should do great job. The tires are Nokian Hakka R2 SUV. I purchased them from Simpletire at $487 for the set of 4 about a month ago. Here are a couple of pictures.

Got my rather cheap (!) wheels, 18x8 ET35, with Nokia's Hakka 9 suv in 225/60. Now just waiting for the X3, and snow, to see how they fit. I am sure the ride will be good!

Price was about 30% of the OEM rims.

The tires I wrote about above, Nokia's Hkpl 9 SUV, https://www.nokiantyres.at/winterrei...eliitta-9-suv/
225/60-18 104XL

But a non studded option for you would be https://www.nokiantyres.at/winterrei...liitta-r3-suv/

Anyone purchase winter wheels and tires for their M40i in canada ? what did you put on? 18s or 19s? Aftermarket or OEM. I was advised that it was best to stick with approved wheels from BMW?

How decent are these things in the snow in stock form? I'm looking at purchasing a M40i in the Chicago area in December, then road tripping to Denver, down through Albuquerque to Phoenix and Vegas, then down to my final destination of southern NM. I'm fully expecting to encounter severe amounts of snow. However, since I'll be living in an area with little to no snow, I see no need to purchase a winter wheel/tire setup. But driving through the Rockies in the winter is a scary proposition.

That is a very similar rim. The one I got come in that color as well as black as well.

That tire should be fine. But I haven't followed he latest and greatest reviews of non studded tires.

Everything is in this thread. I personally think spending $4-5k on a snow setup from BMW is a waste of money.

That combo sells for SEK25000 here. Still feels quite expensive.

Garage List
I just ordered the BMW Style 695, 20" matt black:

Got a nice deal on them so I thought just take them, €2.900 ($3,352). They come with Pirelli Scorpion Winter tires 245/45, didn't want to go non-OEM so just went with it.

I also ordered Snow Chains, the König K-Summit XL K56. Officially BMW doesn't allow any chains on 20"+ rims but these are special external ones which don't require clearance on the inside of the wheel.

Get winters. Why? I like to analyse, and here is what I found:

1. Had a mercedes once. Summer tyres (before i knew the pros of winters) and that thing was crazy in the snow or even slightly icy conditions. SO I got an X3 in 2011

2. First winter in X3 I got winters on - boy that thing was like a tractor. 4inches of snow and a steep incline and it owned it. I got to thinking though is it the xDrive of the rubber ...

3. A couple of years later I went boarding and before that switched to summers. It was March so I figured no biggy, I came from from the white stuff and sure enough, UK snow storm. Ideal opportunity to do comparitive analysis - same hill, same depth snow, same car, different rubber. It wouldn't go up the hill. Sure it was not pendulum style like the Merc, but the traction is in the rubber mostly.

So the xDrive is good, but ya cannae change the laws a physics, as a famous engineer will one day say ;-)

Darn - I just re-read your post - so this is only a one time deal right? Maybe get some snow chains as a just in case?

I totally agree with you, but I guess what I didn't mention is that where I'll be living after that is southern New Mexico where it doesn't snow. So basically I'd be getting snow tires for about a week of use. I'm hoping that in stock form the X3 will be decent enough to get me through scary situations that might arise in the Rockies.
