Which is why I alibaba these things, its just metal. Why pay an arm and a leg for it? $1800 you can have a titanium single with a resonator and valvetronic wireless remote. Or you can pay $6k from Valvtronics themselves. Assinine.

You pay more because these upgrades require extensive R&D and engineering. Ali Baba doesn’t create any parts; they just copy the hard work of real engineers and enthusiasts.

If everyone chose to be like you, the industry would collapse as no one would be developing new parts, and Ali Baba wouldn't have anything to copy.

That's a sign of a company that listens to customers and upgrades their product if needed.

You can add your resonator to the midpipe or get a new midpipe. im sure You will get a special discount since you purchased the first-generation midpipe.

Most of the vendors drop ship what they didn't create, I know because I'm the sourcing and trading agent for them. I developed 2 of them, with no "copying", it was just a simple CAD design and welding barely costs me $2000 to develop both prototypes (cheaper than US retail btw) so should I charge that per item in margin to be "fair"? In this category, if the US side can't be competitive, it's not the cheaper vendors' fault. Upcharging 400% is just bad business. Calculating margin is a high school task that I think some of the M-Tax vendors missed. Not everything is copied, some of it is pretty easy to develop. It's 2024 not 1980. $6k + 1k shipping for welded metal, oof.

Sure, if that makes you feel better about it. But if you think not everything is copied, then why is 99.99% of Ali Baba filled with direct copies of U.S. designs, even though there are hundreds of Chinese suppliers? Why are they not making their own designs and competing? its simply CAD and welding after all

The cost of a product isn’t just about the raw materials. It includes everything—R&D, labor, buying cars to test on, rent, machinery, and so on. For the original designer to turn a profit, they have to cover all these expenses and account for the risks they’ve taken, including the designs that never make it to market, resulting in a complete loss.

When you’re the designer, you must factor in all that. But when you’re the Chinese copier, none of those expenses exist. You wait for a product to be successful, buy a sample, and try to copy it.

Saying that most vendors drop ship without saying who these vendors are is just sidestepping the real issue. No, most vendors don’t do that. We work with 400 vendors, and not one drop ships from China. Plus, the vendor in question here is Active Autowerke, so bringing up "most vendors" drop shipping in this thread is irrelevant, even if it were true.

Thinking of doing a midpipe for my X4MC. It is a lease (may buy at end). Biggest concern is warranty/lease restrictions. Also considering a valve controller.

I’ve been leasing M cars for the past 10 years, and upgrading the midpipe is always one of my first mods. I’ve never had any issues returning the car as long as I put the stock parts back on before the return.

That's great. I'd love to hear sound clips with the resonated version.

Not much difference in sound. The only difference will be the cold start raddle, and some people are saying that at 2k RPM they can hear some droning. Me personally have not experience any droning.
At this point, they are just perfecting it.

An extra $500 plus install is crazy. They should’ve warrantied this for free especially when it’s a $100 difference when purchasing new.

Even worse, the AA sales person I was working with on upgrading my gen 1 system to gen 2 with the resonator to mitigate the "buzzing" as they describe it wasn't even sure it would work. He was waiting until he finally got that installed on an X3M next week to confirm.

Just find it odd they've begun marketing a product (the gen 2 EL midpipe) as a solution to this problem but it may or may not be an improvement. I'll let you know know what the salesperson tells me regarding the addition of the resonator. In the meantime, I wouldn't recommend shelling out ANOTHER $500 for this retrofit kit yet.

Finally got a reply from AA regarding the effectiveness of the retrofit kit after it was installed on that X3M. I was told the resonators did eliminate the "rasp" and is now a little quieter but has a "deeper and smoother sound".
