It's hard to compare the M3 --> 911 because they're not really direct competitors...I am not sure BMW swings in the same sort of ballpark with Porsche, either from a brand prestige or performance point of view, at least most of the time. Maybe they're going to try in this instance? The X3M looks pretty awesome to me, but I can't see spending 80K for the Competition...maybe I would feel differently after seeing them in the flesh or getting a test drive, but that's pretty salty.

the $7,000 upgrade includes 21" wheels, different exhaust, upgraded seats, and 30 hp boost (with waranty). maybe a couple other little things as well. A lot of people buying this car would probably get bigger wheels, upgraded exhaust and seats anyway, so then its $3,000 (4% roughly) for the extra power. |

As much as I like the X3M, I'd probably rather have an M2C + 4Runner DD combo. Right car for the right job, not to mention 6MT That's just the reality of these new cars. Half decent Honda Accords are 30k+ now, while F80's can be easily $80k if you aren't careful.

With that being said...I might be interested in the X3M just for the convenience associated with the winter weather we get here in Chicago. My F80 has been parked all week because I haven't got snow tires for it...and it's basically worthless when we have anything on the ground.

I think the price thing is interesting. These two are in a much more competitive space than the M3/4. BMW cannot come out with a car that has a base price near Macan Turbo level, I just don't see that working. Macan GTS level is probably about right, for the X3M. Given that, I agree with the earlier comments that these are going to seriously eat into M3/4 sales.

Front/rear Weight Distribution?
I may have missed it, but has anyone seen the % distribution yet? With the G01 it was on the Technical Data sheet at release, but I can't find it on the German one Frank_NJ shared.

There's a long history of fake M vents. Z3M, E46 M3, E90 M3, E60 M5, F10 M5 all have fake side vents, The X5 M has sported a fake diffuser for most generations. The Z8 had fake side vents. There's more, but this certainly isn't anything new to M Land.

I see this working, just as Merc is by selling their GLC AMGs like crazy even with the tech from 1996.

His biggest complaint is his inability to shift when he wants to at the lower in town speed. Not sure exactly what that means. Other than that he said it's BOSS! I've driven it; it's a tank in a good way! |
