Here is a surprise for anyone thinking about how to get this done for their G01:

I bought a G45 for my wife and kept the G01 for me. I needed new tires for my G01, but didn't want to continue with the high expense and low lifespan of the RFs. As I was reading this thread and considering my options, it occurred to me to try the spare that came from the factory (didn't have to order the spare for extra money, etc.) in the G01. Guess what: it fit perfectly! In fact, this thread talks about the size of the tire you have to buy in order for the stupid thing to fit under the boot floor. This spare that comes standard (not only) on the G45 is 125/85R18. You do not have to deflate it for the thing to fit!

Having said that, I somehow found the full kit for the G45 on eBay that brought the spare, jack, tools - and the styrofoam that organizes and pads all of that in the G45. I bought it thinking that I would throw away the styrofoam. But when it arrived and as I was fitting the tire in, I noticed I may have some space for the styrofoam and...it fit!! See the pics:

Is this tire's diameter large enough to safely drive the car a reasonable distance (to repair shop, home, etc.) ?

Well, if they are including this size spare on the G45 from the factory for all size tires, it must be fine for the G01.

Yes, that makes sense...this is what I need for my 2019 X3 as I recently moved to regular Michelin CC2 tires.
Can you post the link to the EBay seller?

Would this size spare fit in the rigid under tray that comes with a G01 as standard instead of removing it and replacing it with the G45 foam insert? I’m just thinking the spare rim could be flipped to how you’ve shown it and then I could use the tyre cup insert I already use on the G30 spare that I currently use.

After posting the above I found this picture on line so it looks like it will.

No, it will not fit. As posted in this thread, there is a semi-round indentation underneath the tray that makes the tire fit. As other people have posted, you could cut the tray to make the tire fit, but it will surely not fit as is.

Not sure that the vendor that the seller will have another whole package. I've seen several posts with just the tire or just the jack and tools. I had done some research and found the tray: https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...ox-71105a445d4

I’m trying to clarify what you have done, which sounds like a well-thought-out achievement that will address my concerns when replacing the RFTs on my X3.
  1. You are referring to a G01 without the spare tire option.
  2. You removed the subfloor that forms the storage space in front of the battery.
  3. You installed a G45 Trunk Floor Storage Box - BMW (71-10-5-A44-5D4) in the G01 space in front of the battery.
  4. The G45 temporary spare (125/85R18) fits in the Trunk Floor Storage Box.
  5. The temporary spare is fully inflated.
  6. The original X3 trunk floor fits as intended with no modifications and without raising the floor.
Please confirm.
Thanks

This is a great summary so, yes to all.

The G45 Trunk Floor Storage Box just fits. I don't have a way to kind of hold it in place, except for the fact that the tire fits snugly into place between the semi-round indentation of the bare floor and the battery box and there is very little movement.

The G01 trunk floor platform clicks into place to hide everything. This to me was the perfect solution. I only added the elastic cord you see in the pics as a "just in case" measure after reading earlier posts in this thread for safety. The spare is fully inflated, so no need for me to carry an extra inflator as in other solutions earlier posts had. The jack and tools that come with the G45 work with the G01.

The only thing is that you'll lose the ability to store the retractable cargo area cover underneath the trunk floor platform, but I think that is a worthy compromise.

CDq2: Can you confirm this spare fits over the brakes on both the front and the rear of the G01?

Awesome find and write up to let us know of this other option. If I can throw a suggestion your way, if you're only using a bungee as a semi-fail safe to keep the spare from flying out in case of an accident, I'd recommend threading the bungee over and under through the spokes to at least give it a chance to get held up if it were to try and eject out of there. With just the bungee laying across the top, the wheel would still just fly out. Again, just my $.02. Bungee would prob snap in any real hard smack either way, but I think looping it over and under gives it a fighting chance!

I just want to be clear one more time. If i purchase the G45 71-10-5-A44-5D4 storage box along with the 125/85R18 tire, I'm good to go in a 2023 X3 M40 G01??

Also, does anyone have the part numbers of the tools that fit in this storage box?

See below- note remark about large wheels....things to be aware of with compact spare-

Way too much for me....
Just carry a small, inexpensive 12 volt tire air pump and a can of one of the several brands of stuff that temporarily seals a flat.

An "easy-peezy" solution for the very rare occurrence "flat" when not in a well populated urban environment.

My 2 cents.
(also, much safer than raising a portion of the SUV on one of those flimsy portable scissor jacks)

Totally agree and toss in one of these too, for added insurance. They work great for flat tires caused by nails and screws. About $17 on Amazon.

Hello and sorry for the delay. I finally got to do this and take pics. So the answer is yes to both the front and rear, as you can see from the pics.

A few post-test run learnings:
  • If you are changing your tire from the comfort of your own garage, you might want to use your impact driver with a 17mm socket.
  • It is a bit of a pain trying thread the screw through the wheel while holding the tire - unlike Japanese cars that have the screws on the axle and you thread the tire through them and tighten the nut.
  • Also, since my car is rear-wheel drive only, there is no way to stop the front tires from spinning when you lift them with the jack, which is probably the reason why the full kit includes a chock for when you are lifting the back tires.

Hope this helps you all.

It looks like you don’t have the bigger front M callipers so I don’t think this answers everyone’s question re fitment.

And you’re supposed to loosen off the wheel bolts before you jack up the car so the wheel doesn’t spin and then the reverse when torquing.

Studs are bad for alloys compared to bolts. It’s like having 5 files that grind the stud holes of your rim each time to remove or install the rim.

Sounds like he has no experience in changing a car tire, perhaps not too surprising in this day and age.

Ah, I think you are correct. That vehicle doesn't have the bigger M calipers. Hmm. Is there not a BMW employee in this forum who can easily test this on a car in the shop?

Thanks, I do not have larger brakes, just regular X3, so this solution may work for me as well.
