For those who have the exhaust mod done is this visible from underneath the car. The reason I ask is that I have the car under PCP and wonder how a dealer will feel about the mod especially when it comes to trade in?

From his website: I've modded lots of these with great results, a deeper, aggressive sound with clearer more defined crackles. The process involves me removing the exhaust from the car and opening the two main silencers from above, inside each is a series of chambers and pipework, I use stainless parts and welding to internally straight through the airflow, once put back together and back on the car no evidence of my work can be seen. this also leaves the flap functional so you still have a loud/quiet option, meaning no drone when cruising. https://www.exhaustmods.co.uk/m140i-...0i-m440i-m640i

They wouldn't physically notice the modification, but with a number of people having issues with the flaking exhausts i think it would become apparent at that stage or if any other issues were to arise in this area, if still in the warranty period could possibly give BMW a reason to void the warranty.
I also am very keen to get this done but later down the line due to reasons above, even though i intend to keep the car post PCP, as it has really grown on me |

Got a question for you guys. I tried pulling fuse 203 today but realized the guys that installed my dashcam used it to piggyback for as well. Is there another fuse I can relocate the piggy back to so I can pull the 203 fuse? It's a 7.5 fuse, not sure if they changed it to a higher amp one because of dashcam or it's always a 7.5.
Any help would be appreciated |

I certainly wouldn't go down the tune route for warranty purposes, but for me this was one I am fine with

I wondered if the exhaust flap was binary - completely open or completely closed, or if there was a different position for each driving mode. It certainly sounds louder all the time as far as I can tell. EDIT: managed to upload a short vid of a cold start with F203 pulled. Link only as I don’t know how to embed... So I undid the f203 trick a couple days ago, now the exhaust won’t open under any mode.... has anyone else encounter this?
update: bought bimmerlink and force opened it.. but the sound does not sound as agressive as before now.. can the flap open partially?? I always thought the vavle can only open 100% and close 100%. Last edited by davidchenliu; 01-03-2020 at 12:33 AM.. Reason: update |

Maybe I’m missing something obvious, but what am I looking for in the left exhaust? I don’t think I can see the valve, and the solenoid that controls it is round the second bend of the pipe.
If someone could post a pic of the valve (or at least the visible part of it) that would be much appreciated and help determine if I’m (a) losing it or (b) looking at the right thing |

So to try to summarise this long thread....
1. Hot climate versions (incl perhaps Australia) might already operate with both valves open all the time (or at least on startup)? I can confirm that in Australian spec, even on Sport mode when I start up only one exhaust is producing noticeable pressure. 2. Pulling fuse 203 must be done (while engine is running), after 15 minutes of driving in Sport mode 3. May cause resonance at 2500 rpm? 4. May not be 100% reversible when you replace the fuse... some posts about the valve operation/exhaust sounds not being like they were before 5. Running an un-modded car in Sport+ mode achieves the same result as pulling fuse 203?

I notice on mine when I start it up it's loud, but if I just lightly tap the throttle even in the first few seconds, it quietens down dramatically, and doesn't go loud again. Is that normal?

Thank you for all the information you wrote here!
I´ll try to do the same in a workshop in Barcelona specialized in exhaust mods once this covid19 nightmare goes to hell...with the objective of giving them proper instructions, could you please tell us if they have installed a direct pipe from 2 to just before the mechanical valve to the left exhaust exit inside the backbox? I´m missing something fore sure, a direct pipe linking these two points will result in trapped gas in the whole circuit @verysideways Last edited by ArinXal; 03-19-2020 at 10:51 AM.. Did you lose the exhaust burble because you removed fuse 203? Have you worked out how to restore the burbles?

So I finally checked out how my exhaust/valves seem to operate (unmodified).
On startup I get the loud sound for about a minute, but only the RHS exhaust is putting out any pressure. Nothing from left. This is regardless of whether I start in Comfort or Sport mode. Then when I switch to Sport or Sport Plus (or even Sport Indiv I think)... I can hear a mechanical noise for a moment. Then I can feel some pressure from the left exhaust, plus hear the exhaust tone from the left pipe. I did find that sometimes I needed to prod the accelerator and then let it idle. When I switch back to Comfort, the left exhaust stops producing any pressure or noise. Mine's a 6/18 build without particle filter (and also doesn't have the vanes behind front grilles)
