So I need to look for that with the 3d camera options.

I can’t use the BMW app because I haven’t bought the vehicle so the VIN is not mine to check. I’m looking at some CPO 2022 and 2023 and some have drive recorder listed as an option but others don’t and I’m trying to find out if it can be ordered after if it’s not on the options list when the car was built.
I have a 23MY X3 w/the Parking Assist Package and although it didn't come w/Drive Recorder, I have the option to subscribe monthly or pay a one-time fee for lifetime usage.

Yeah I understand that but 2020 and 2021 models have surround 3d cameras too so they can get drive recorder on the app?

It sounds like it’s connected drive pro not just connected package pro?

Here is a weird one - does anyone's HUD buzz / whirr when initially opening the door or getting in?

I don’t know if 2020-21 cars can get the drive recorder. I would assume they can. You mentioned that you were looking at 2022-23 cars so that’s where my answer to you was directed at. You can buy it after the fact in 2022-23 cars. But it must have the parking assistance package. I believe that all modern X3s have the connected drive thing. It comes with them. There is a subscription fee, though.

You sure it’s the HUD and not the fuel pump pressurizing?

so that would be more on the outside and i hear that seperately... this is like a whirr or creak that comes when first getting into the car right where the HUD is... its almost like it's warming up lol

Interesting. I don’t recall ever hearing that, but I can’t say that I have listened for it either. I do see sometimes that when I start the car quickly after unlocking and getting inside that the HUD goes into a little bit of a start up sequence where it comes on and does some funky stuff with the display. I’ll have to listen closely next time.

I remember hearing it on my spouse's F31 2018 328d. Noticed it a couple of months in, but it always worked and was fine up until we traded the car at 50k.

Probably is the HUD calibrating. I think BMW may replace it for you if it gets too annoying😂

My understanding is that those years have iDrive 7 "lite" and thus don't support drive recorder.

This is something I just went thru. So Drive Recorder does not show up as an option on the X3 website builder (but it does show up for other cars). You need to work with your dealer to add it onto your build. When you add it to the build it costs $100USD, if you buy it later from the BMW App Store it will cost $150USD. This is a common theme amongst some of those BMW subscriptions, meaning if you can spec it at time of order it comes out cheaper than if you buy it later in the BMW App Store

Edit: to be clear, you can also pay monthly for a subscription for this service, I think $9.99USD/month? Not sure.

Buying after the fact is very lucrative for BMW. Say you pay the lifetime fee for Drive Recorder as an add-on and then you sell the car down the road. The new owner would have to pay the fee again and BMW will be more than willing to collect again!

I just learned a new term from the show "For All Mankind": BOHICA works very well in this case!

Does anyone have a comparo of?

The M40i with 20 inch wheels on the stock Bridgestone Alenza RFT vs

The M40i with 20 inch wheels on Michelin PS4S?

Does the car feel more sloppy / wallowy on the Michelins being non RFT? How does Sport on the Michelins compare to Comfort on the Bridgestones etc?

Why is a BMW dealer selling a used X4 with this interior. I’ve never seen it before, the headrests are black but the door panels are oyster. If it came with black vernasca how did the door panels get oyster? If it’s oyster the door handle grabs should be oyster not black. I’m confused.

Look like seat covers... there's a picture the seems to show the sides being quite baggy and wrinkled. But why would a dealer ask with covers on, unless it makes the now white panels look odd?

I just installed PS4S on my summers from Alenza RFT and the ride is softer but upside handling has increased and feels more direct to me. braking feels better but overall I'm happy with the switch.

They definitely look like seat covers but the door panels are throwing me off. Some of these dealers are willing to sell anything. I can’t believe a BMW dealer is selling a pre owned vehicle with seat covers like this. Terrible looking!!

I’ve seen dealers selling used X3 and X4 with prior accidents and frame damage on the car fax report. Is it getting this bad? (Scratches Head)

Yes, it really is. And that just plain rots.

I noticed on the BMW USA website build it now for the 2024 X4 that when you get to the end of the build and it shows you a picture of your build exterior and interior. If you look at the exterior in the back, through the window you can see that they are using the fold down headrests on all 3 positions NOT just the middle one. If you look at the interior build it also shows that all 3 headrests fold down NOT just the middle one.

I wonder if they changed that on the 2024 model for the X4 or is this just a graphics error on their website?

My response may not be the most helpful but since I have a MY23 X3, I'd assume they're mostly the same and all three of my rear seats have fold down headrest.
