Had some fun yesterday with Vroom and the online car buying services to see how much used car prices have fallen since the summer boom... and yes the difference is absolutely drastic.
My 68k nearly brand new X3 M40i now gets a 50K quote from Vroom with only 2k miles lol... glad to see the auto world is finally starting to stabilize... I wouldn't sell the car but this is a good metric to see what will happen with new car prices soon.

i would say this is normal world reality and what one see prior to Covid... the past few years were entirely fake... first year or 2, people usually take a major bath...
I hope no one bought over msrp or had a way to get in major equity, otherwise rip.

I’m glad I got what I got, didn’t pay more than MSRP, and got a lot of equity. Even the finance manager laughed about not even trying to sell me gap with my down payment. Crazy how things change and there never is a “normal”. |

My 2020 x3m lease was due this past November. Went to talk to my dealer in September abt what my
Options were. He told me the m40i would be msrp less any incentives. They gave me 56k for my x3m versus a 48k buyout. They tried to sell the x3m for 69k and change. And it sat….and sat….and sat….until they dropped the price 5k….sat…sat….sat….last I saw it was down to 61k which I think it eventually sold for. Things are normalizing!! |

We are looking to purchase the 2023 X3 xDrive30i. How much discount can I expect to get off of MSRP in Southern California?
This will be a cash purchase, so can I expect 3%, 6% or 9% off? . Last edited by investor27; 12-17-2022 at 03:10 PM.. |

Few dealers around Boston all have order spots some with multiple BUT not selling below MSRP, only 1 would conform to sell with the base lease rate…
2023 x3 m40 for order, any dealer with base rate and 3% off BUT they are not budging?!? We will see the last week of the month after Christmas, maybe they will loosen up? 🎅 ❄️ 🌲 |

This will be a cash purchase, so can I expect 3%, 6% or 9% off? You’ll have to call dealers to find out. Also cash isn’t the discount motivator it used to be. Dealers make more on a deal when the buyer finances. Your best bet would be to finance it and then pay it off immediately. |

yes but at a lotal lease life cost of $36.8K from a selling price of $64K, let's say 68k with taxes, that would leave around 31K to payoff if purchased... the residual is probably faar higher... i see 0 value in leasing here unless there is some tax advantage or other reason

Part of the disconnect here may be that rolling the acquisition fee and dealer fees takes ($925 + $599 = $1,524) the payment from $949 to $995. The $600 broker fee is separate and not being financed. The $599 "dealer fee" (separate from broker fee) is also unfortunate but seems to be par for the course for most lease brokers in my area on a variety of different brands. I've only put down a $100 deposit for now so in the meantime I've emailed 20+ dealers up and down the east coast to see if anyone can budge further on MSRP. I've been waiting since July and this offer has gotten materially better. At the end of the day, I'm not going to bat for this offer and more so want advice. Totally understood it's a bad time to lease but I'd strongly prefer not to finance/own. I like being in a new car every 3 years and then road quality and salt up here is not ideal for car ownership.

Just a bad time to lease...probably the worst in decades. BMW residuals used to be in 60s and MFs close to zero with MSDs etc...along with 8-10% reductions in MSRP before incentives which were more plentiful...that all adds up to an ugly large cost to lease now.

My interest rate on the finance was high but I'm throwing in extra principal per month to pay it off earlier than contracted. |
