X3 Turn Signal Stalk
I cant remember from my test drive, but one negative from Road and Track's review was a detentless turn signals. Does it in fact have a "notch" if pressed far enough to hold the signal on? Or are there no detents at all?

Yes, it stays on if pressed harder. What the hell is R&T talking about?

Here's the link. Maybe they mean how it's not like other cars where the stalk actually stays clicked over. It's over on the right box.

This is a real pain for someone who is actually committed to using directional signals since you don't get the audible click and movement of the stalk when the signal shuts off which allows you to restart the signal quickly when needed. Think of it as a directional signal designed by a 12 year old video game player who has only used a joystick and never driven a real car. Lou |

Cool, I like the BMW turn signal stalk design as I typically use the 3 blink option.

I like it too, some people have to have loud key boards os sounds so the know they pressed a key, not me. it got negatives on having to press the button on the stalk to put it in park too, but I like that once I got use to it.

I think the BMW stalk is much better. With a flick you get three flashes for a lane changeover quick turn. You can hold it to blink only as long as you want, or push past thecresistance poit for continuous "though turn" operation. A huge advantagevis the ability to cancel blinking by pushing the talk either direction. That is, pushing up cancels a right turn signal with out possibility of counter signal. It does take some time and thought to adjust to this system. It's o much better and more logical it should be the standard instead of the exception.

You can signal 3 times with held up to the resistance point. ( Can hold longer and can be deactivated through iDrive). You can also push it past the resistance point to keep it blinking.

I love the why the BMW signal stalk works. Wish others were like it. Can't see why ppl would dislike it?

The old style ones absolutely suck compared to this design.
