I miss adaptive cruise control for the X3
Correct name is active cruise control not adaptive.
I drove an BMW 5 series with adaptiv cruise control and I was sold. I Felt like a fighter pilot behind the steering wheel.. You guys who have tried this function out know what I am talking about the cruisecontroll is basically the same except when you get close to a car in front, the car locks on and adjust the speed and distance to the Car in front, if it brakes your car brakes if it gives speed your car gives speed to the programmed speed.. When the car has locked the radar on the car infront, a car icon appears on the dashboard .. Lot like the radar lock on a fighter plane . Last edited by X3andZ4owner; 06-20-2011 at 05:59 PM.. |

I'm sure it will be introduced at some point (the graphics are programmed in the dash). A bit strange that they didn't include it at launch.

I don't think I would care for that feature.

If you look at the steering wheel buttons on the left, there are 2 buttons left out, this is the place for the active cruise control buttons..

I would've bought it if available. Very useful on motorways (freeways ) where there is too much traffic to use normal cruise control (without constantly adjusting it)

I have seen from 5 series features that there is an emergency breaking function connected to the active cruise control. Very nice to have also.
I hope to see the active cruise control on the 2012 X3. |

I was impressed over how far away the radar locked on and that it kept track and lock even in steep curves . |

My stealer told me no big changes for the 2012 X3 (slight regional changes to different packages). If this is true or not remains to be seen. You cant trust BMW anymore. They might start offering it March 2012 as with full black display on the f10 and BMW apps.

I have it on my 3 series. I think it is fantastic. I actually disliked it at first, but then I got to understand how it works and it quickly grew on me.
It is a very interesting piece of engineering because it's not just a radar mounted to your bumper. It has a complicated logic system associated with it which is quite good. Only problem is that when the sensor gets snow/ice covered in the winter it doesn't work. Most of the time it stays clear because it's heated, but occasionally it gets covered and then you are stuck without cruise control. |

I would love this feature and will be really bummed if it is on the 2012's. They'll probably wait though until they do a refresh on the X3 in 3 or 4 years.

I could have sworn I saw this on the options list... must be mistaken. I wouldn't have gotten it anyway... but thought it was an option.

We'll know for sure whether there'll be any changes for MY2012 early next mth. Black display is already fitted to X3's with Prof Nav &/HUD.

The purchase options list "Dynamic Cruise Control" which slows your vehicle the set speed when you are going down a hill that would otherwise cause you speed to increase. But, this is not "Active Cruise Control" because it does not monitor the traffic in front of your vehicle.

Adaptive Cruise Control is available as an option on the X3. It is a standalone option, not part of any package.

So if the person in front of you brakes hard will your car do the same? Also I wonder if BMW secretly records when it's active in the cars computer, if they don't then anyone with this option who rear ends another car could say the active cruise control didn't work and sue BMW...
