Dillema: 2011 Touareg or 2011 X3 35
So I'm coming off an existing 2008 lease and I'm wondering if I should get a new Touareg or switch to the X3. The way I have them spec'd out the Touareg is 3k down 609 a month and the X3 is 659 with 3700 due at signing. So just based on the numbers the X3 is more expensive. But here's wear it gets interesting. The X3 gets more mpg and will probably end up being a push as far as cost of owning goes. Both have maintenance included.
Yes the Touareg is bigger....but not THAT much bigger....I'm not an off roader but will take the car skiing. FYI the X3 28 is not an option, especially after driving the 35 |

Since it seems both cars will end up costing about the same in the long run I'd say just go with the one you think looks better and drives better. I'm sure both cars will do fine if you just use it as a daily driver and occasionally take it up to the mountains for skiing. After the two year lease you could always go back and give the car you didn't pick another try or perhaps another even better competitor will come out by then.

I like the look of the new Touareg. Prefer the SE look to the Altitude. I test drove one and it was pretty good. Still glad I got an X3 instead!!
Big delays on Touareg orders too because of problems with supply. Worth bearing in mind

The only thing thats really killing me about the x3 is no hitch. I don't tow anything but my bike mount is hitch mounted. I drove both cars this weekend and didn't feel that the touareg was that much bigger. The touaregs driving/handling is much improved over my 2008 but nothing close to the x3.

We were looking at Touregs and the new 2011 was really nice, however the supply of cars was pitiful compared to the new X3 which started rolling out later than the Toureg.
So last week we placed an order for a new 2011 X3 28i and we should see that by early April. We had a 2004 X3 2.5 which we bought new and the 2011 is like night and day. The new X3 is lightyears ahead. Looking forward to it. |

I would choose X3 without any second thoughts. I have test driven both, and in my opinion X3's performance and class is way above than Touareg. After I test drove X3, immediately I know this is the car for me. I would suggest you to choose X3 and you will not regret it.

I too test drove both and once i drove the X3...well that was it.
I didnt like how you could not get leather and upgraded sound and some other items unless you spent a ton on the middle and upper package (lux? executive?). i really wanted to like the VW as the dealer is closer, and i wanted to fly more low profile than a BMW, but ultimately, the x3 was so much more fun to drive and had what i wanted. |

I didnt consider the VW but after checking it out online think it looks pretty good - cant compete with the BMW F25 20d for running costs but a worthy consideration (perhaps more a competitor of the X5 size wise)

Yep, it is more a competitor for the X5. That seems to be the main car that it gets compared with on the Touareg forums. People in that market look at the Discovery too.

Better MPG and C02 emissions and the disco would be a strong contender
