Picked up new x3 Black/Chestnut today
Hey. I picked up my new x3 35i today. I ordered jet black, chestnut, wave wood. The pictures make the leather color look like a basketball but it looks more like a football. Here are a few pictures nonetheless.

Thank you. It is my second BMW. On my 200 mile drive from the kc dealership to des moines my first observation is that it is really quick. The auto transmission and brakes are nice. The standard for US radio is good, nice to pick up HD stations where available. The car had the ipod connector in the glove box. Only negative so far is what someone else mentioned in that the lower door panel quality is low.

Congratulations! That chestnut is a deceptive colour in photos as you can see clearly in the difference between the shades of red in these pics. I assume that the darker red is more like real life and the flash makes it look lighter. Nice combination

Any chance we can get some pics without the flash? Chestnut seems to change color all the time, but the most accurate pics seem to be without the flash. I love your color combo by the way

Sure this is the best I can do with my garage. It looks more like the bmw build your own than any picture I have seen.

If I recall the test drive right, I was disappointed not to find a lined portion where you can put things without getting a rattle. On a previous 3 I ended up putting a windshield cloth in there and nesting the "rattly" things in it. It worked but it was always a pain to nest it right, grab things out of it without getting the cloth, too. Not the end of the world or anything. Lined bins seem like such a simple thing, but for me are a really simple, enjoyable addition to the car. Doesn't seem expensive or heavy to add.

I noticed you have the rubber floor mats? How do they fit and how much did you pay? Did you also get the regular mats?
BTW the Chesnut looks beautiful but no where near what it looks like on BMW's website. I can imagine some people are going to be really annoyed when they see a different color in the car. |

Hi. I do not believe the x3 comes standard with floor mats in the US. The front and rear all weather mats cost $120.

On the chestnut in real life it looks more like a standard football skin than the pictures which make it look like a standard basketball. I am not sure why the color does not translate well. One positive feature I noticed on a black leather and chestnut is that the stitching is of natural color.
My right lower door panel has a line from the mold. If you look close in my first picture you can see the line come and go and the panel is hard and thin. Also, I am impressed with the exhaust note. Much better than my 2007 328i. |

Ugh! Thanks. It's ridiculous for them to charge extra for something that's almost a necessity but oh well... I'll contact my dealer and make sure they have some in stock.

Had the same reaction. I'd be very pleased to find them just included. I don't care if they simply added the price to the bottom line. Not having to deal with asking for them and having to think about spending the extra few bucks would be worth it. Blissful ignorance would work for me here.
Maybe they need to keep them available for salespeople to throw into the deal to nudge some folks over the hump and decide to buy the car!

looks awesome. i was really debating over this chesnut on fineline or just aluminum. i decided with alum, but this one looks nice as well. i just find that it has too much stuff going on since the door handles and other trims are aluminum then there's wood, then there's the chesnut. it looks better than i thought though.

Question: It seems like you have a sports steering wheels but no sports package and no shift paddles.
Does the sports (thicker) steering wheel come standard on the X35? Great colors by the way... |

Yes, believe so. Below is what's listed in the standard features for the US 3.5i. The Sport Activity Package adds "Sports leather steering wheel with paddle shifters" which I understand to the same standard sport steering wheel described below with the addition of the paddle shifters.
"3-spoke leather-wrapped multi-function sport steering wheel with controls for audio system, cruise control, and Bluetooth wireless communication for hands-free mobile phone (if so equipped)2"
