2011 BMW X3 prototype spottings on the rise (3/27/10)
Ahead of its expected debut in just a few short months, the 2011 X3 test mules appear to have increased their testing on public roads. All the better for us as we now have even more photos of the soon to be slightly upmarketed X3. This particular one comes in a reddish tone.

If you look at the pictures of this Vermillion Red X3 prototype look closer at the front of the car especially at the licence plate holder you can see areas of the front bumper completely masked in black tape giving the impression that the front is all plastic.
When in fact there is more painted areas with the central section following form with the X1 and X5 with a black finish. So far on film it looks like a mini-X5 and it has the same aura , the wheels will also be available as two-tone rims that feature with the X1 and now the X5 but in a new X3 specific design. Optional wheels will go to 20" in size. Interior quality has leapfrogged the current E83 X3 with higher quality materials and build quality on a par with the new 5er. And look at that sloping roof indicating that underneath the more dynamic appearance lies a new sporting character than the previous car , The new BMW X3 will undeline it's new dynamic character with a Powerful twin power 3.0 Turbo petrol engine badged as X3xDrive35i . Customers in Europe will be given the X3xDrive40d , US cutomers are expected to receive the current US and state compliant diesel found within the X5xDrive35d. European customers will be given the choice of the following models X3 xDrive 23i ,X3 xDrive28i , X3xDrive 35i and in diesel specification- X3 xDrive20d , X3xDrive2.5d , X3xDrive30d and X3xDrive40d. US cutomers will be offered X3xDrive28i and X3xDrive35i and initially X3xDrive35d. The new BMW X3 will be unveiled in June with the World Premiere taking place at the "Mondial-Auto" in Paris this October. Sales begin late October. Last edited by SCOTT26; 03-27-2010 at 03:41 PM.. |

meh......whats the deal with making big SUV's again? People forget the $5 gl, from couple years ago. This new X3 looks like its the the size of the first gen X5.....Dont get me wrong, I like Suvs, but they need to have real utilities, like towing 6500lbs and going off road. I loved my 04 jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L, front and rear LSD I would dominate the concrete jungle,(with out breaking suspension parts) it would tow like a beast, Go off road to places nobody else could, then the GF would take it Mall crawling(easy to park/maneuver at any place)

Scott, thanks for all the info on the M1 and X3.
Any idea if and when North America will see 2.0L diesel engines? (I'm assuming it wouldn't be in the X3, but the 1, 3, and X1 models). |

But, I still betting that this and the 528i will be the final new models to get the N52. If I am not mistaken, the X1's debut next year is the next new platform release and I expect (hope) to see the new turbo four in there instead of the N52. If not there, then certainly the F20 1 series. Quote:
Now, when do we get an X4, X3 M, and X4 M to bring the midsize SAV range up to speed with its bigger brother? |
