2009 X3 Alarm
Purchased a 2009 X3 last week. We negotiated and had the a factory alarm included in the deal. As with all my other BMW's in the past 10 years or so the mirror has the red button that blinks when the alarm is activated. We figured as in the past all that had to be installed was "the alarm"
So here is the deal. The dealership says the vehicle did not come prewired from the factory. Information from the technician is that the 2010 X3's do not come prewired and my vehicle falls within the production run of 2010 wiring harnesses. Anyone else hear anything like this? Why can one go to the "Build Your Own" section of the BMW website and find the alarm option on both the 2009 and 2010 X3 models? Thanks for the help Jon |

I'm pretty sure my 10/08 build didn't either even though the book says it was supposed to. It also said I was supposed to have a glove box flashlight but that was not there either.
I stand corrected. My 8/2008 build did come prewired for the alarm. I was looking on the firewall but should have been looking inside the cabin air filter plenum (have to remove the cabin air filter). The mounting holes and wiring harness on page 4 were clearly visible. Last edited by rs6655; 02-01-2010 at 12:10 PM.. |

additionally, with the built-in security measures our cars are equipped with, i wouldn't be too worried.

Okay. Here is the deal. In February 2009 all 3 series and X3's stopped getting pre-wired for an alarm. From that point on the cars will either come with an alarm or come without an alarm.
For us, we needed an alarm. The resolution was to return the X3 to the dealership. As the alarm was part of the deal and they were not able to "deliver the deal", so to speak, it wasn't an issue. They refunded our money and we found a vehicle that suited our needs. For the record. Bravo to Hansel Prestige BMW in Santa Rosa California. Jon |
