As mentioned in the title, song and artist details don't show up every now and then in my 2022 X3 M40i. Additionally, the next and previous track buttons don't work, along with the scroll wheel. However, when I turn off the car and turn it back on or disconnect and reconnect my iPhone to CarPlay, all details begin to show up and the buttons start working again, as shown in the second image. l've also observed that this issue often occurs when I leave the car for a short duration of time and then return and connect my phone to CarPlay (For example, when I go out for grocery shopping). Has anyone else faced this problem?

Could be the car doesn't like your music... sorry, joking!

Mine will de this for a song now and then. I use either Apple music or Spotify and assumed that since the music and album art were being delivered via a cell signal to the phone that I had a weak cell signal. Usually happens for a single song then functions correctly without having to unpair and reconnect the phone.

Definitely just a hiccup with the iPhone communication with the head unit. Nothing to fear.

Yes happens to me now and again as well, exactly the same as you mention. I normally press and hold the volume knob to reset the system and that usually cures it for me.

Yep, that works for me too.. and better yet, I simply turn on wifi and turn it back off on my iPhone (this basically reconnects Apple Carplay to iDrive) and this seems to fix the issue, but doing this every other time I drive my car is painful.

Did you manage to find a permanent fix? This happens to me daily and having to disconnect and connect is frustrating.

I haven’t. And it’s almost inevitable that I have issues like this when the car isn’t driven for a week or so. Apple CarPlay never works properly until I do sometimes several resets.

I drive mine daily and this problem happens guarenteed once a day, I think I notice it more then you’re in and out in a short space of time, e.g. go into shop come out then go and get fuel. It’s very annoying I hope there’s a fix but as they’re on to new drives I doubt there will be

Unknown Artist/Album is shown when I don't have ID3 tag filled in. Compare it with what's displayed on main display. iDrive music is so funky. E.g. I have one album (one physical folder) split to 10+ albums, each containing one song. Plus the playback doesn't move from one "album" to another and comes back to song No. 1 of that (imaginary) album, i.e. one item in iDrive. Really bothers me.

TBH... even on iDrive 6 I've seen issues recently. I bought 'Ministry of sound the annual 2022' (on CD!) and could not get the 1st CD to show any album, track, cover art info. Tried everything in iDrive that I knew about, but no luck.

Fast forward a month, put CD1 in yesterday and instantly track info shows. Updated album info 'online' and got everything except the cover art.

Even dug out some of my old CDs from 1998 (Pete Tong: Essential Selection, Summer 1998) and they were not recognised for weeks, but again yesterday everything now shows including cover art.

I'm not fussed tbh, but I think the Gracenote DB is so old now and probably not administered correctly for users of iDrive 6 anymore.

I have continually had the same issue, however what resolves it for me is turning off WiFi (disconnecting from iDrive) and immediately turning WiFi back on. Album art reappears.

Although yesterday I took my car in for service and they apparently "upgraded" the iDrive system. The album artwork is no longer visible in the instrument cluster. Has anyone experienced this or have a solution to bring it back?

What software version are you on? I was updated to the latest available a few months ago at the dealer in hopes to solve this problem and while it didn’t work, I still at leave have it as an option on the cluster.

I have this issue as well.I set the 7th memory slot to take me to the phone connection screen and just hit the dial/select to disconnect and then connect the phone again. Much faster than a head unit reset and less fumbling with the phone to turn off/on WiFi.

While I wish the problem didn’t exist, this was the quickest way I could find to correct it. I hope a new software update solves the problem but this has been happening through the past few so not keeping my hopes up.

This happened when you take two drives in quick succession. But leave say and hour between drives and it usually ok. Believe leaving it for an hour ensures all the electronics go to sleep, any shorter some of the electronic modules stay in a ready state.

And don’t think you can have the album art in the HUD but if you go to change track you can have the song list shown in the HUD. But of course if you have the issue above it doesn’t show.

Happens every third or fourth drive.

The issues are related I believe. If I don’t see the song showing up in my display, I also can’t control anything - skip, rewind, etc. unless I use my phone. That’s why I use the setup above - it’s fast - disconnect and reconnect literally happens as quickly as I can select those options. No waiting for WiFi to reconnect, etc. Regarding the HUD - I haven’t noticed if the song title show there. I will try to look for that next time the issue pops up.

Is the current song itself not showing? If so, just press the BC button on the end of the high beam stalk to cycle through the right pane options in the cluster.

If it's just the album art itself, then I'm sorry, I don't have any ideas

Unfortunately, it’s not the view. CarPlay has been buggy with not showing any audio and not enabling any controls until you disconnect and reconnect the phone or WiFi or reboot the head unit for a lot of folks. It would seem that there should be a software update that could fix this but that hasn’t happened yet.

It doesn't solve the problem, but it shows you how to fix it with one button press on your iphone (assuming you have an iphone).
