Ethanol Content/Flex Fuel Kit
I am looking for an Ethanol Content kit for my 2020 X3M Comp. I have the BM3 tuning platform right now tuned Stg 1 E30. I want to either know the Ethanol % i am running or maybe even turn on the FLEX fuel tune in the Custom Rom settings and run E50.
The kits I see available are: 1. Fuel It S58 X3M Kit 2 MHD CAN Bus S58 Kit plug n play (Ecutek only) 3. Visconti S58 X3M CAN Bus kit 4 BM3 Flex Fuel Kit CAN connection (in the works) How many people have used any of them besides the "Fuel It" kit. The other CAN bus options will self correct for ethanol with Flex Fuel enabled. You can use the "Fuel-It" kit to find the ratio by hand and do a live adjust on the Ethanol content when you fill up. The Fuel It kit is almost $500 when you add tax and shipping The MHD kit is a great looking kit, and is very affordable but wont work BM3 (No PTCAN2 support from BM3) $490 Visconti Kit dont know what it looks like but $700 after shipping and tax. No price on the BM3 kit as its not been released for the X3M yet. Anybody got any thought/opinions/experiences on any of these options? Is the manual adjustment just as good? Has anybody gotten any better pricing that what I have found. TIA |

I have a Bend Calibration kit I’m testing out for them right now on my X3M. I’m currently running BM3 and it’s working great. Also to comment on the BM3 manual E% adjustment; that needs to be done everytime you start the car and mine had some weird intermittent issue with logging when doing that. This was early on when I was connecting to the Bend ECA via bluetooth to read the content before I had the wires tapped into the PT-CAN. I definitely hated doing the manual adjuster and do not recommend.
It has a fuel filter/flex sensor under the driver side, super easy to install the filter and flex sensor with two nuts to hold the filter down. The Analyzer wiring is very easy. I know they’re working on a couple things to help optimize so I’ll wait to post pics until their official release but feel free to send ian@bendcalibration.com a message to ask about it; maybe they need other testers. I’ve ran their flex/filter kit on my M2C for 4years now and it’s been great.

Thanks for the update and advice. I'll pass on the fuel it kit then. I like the MHD kit alot but it won't read on BM3 due to running on PTCAN2. BM3 isn't set up for PTCAN2 from what I was told. I've emailed Ian I'll see what he has to say.
I'm guessing on the E30 content. My LTFT is about 1.04 so I'm thinking I'm pretty close on content to E30. |

Try to get a custom flex tune. OTS tunes aren't the best for optimal power. |

Digging this up to add I just installed the MHD flex fuel kit in mine and that process was super simple. Easy connection at the back of the engine onto the low pressure fuel line and the connection is right in the engine bay. The MHD box even hides down in where the wire connector is so it's a stealth install.
From the looks of it, it's much simplier to install than the BM3 kit, which requires you to run wires into the passenger footwell and repin one of the pins. |
