Yeah I’m pretty happy despite a £130ish rise from last year. Just pi$$es me off that they have you over a barrel and seem to make up the prices. Just feels like they are profiteering, jumping on the cost of living bandwagon.

I had a non fault claim in 2021 where somebody hit me and wrote my car off, £10k claim. Apparently I’m more of a risk getting hit again! Go figure. Like I said, they seem able to make it up as they go.

I’ve been doing the rounds looking for my insurance renewal. I’ve have quotes up to £2k. Tesco clearly don’t want to insure an M40i. Aviva aren’t much better.

As per posts on this thread Admiral come out best at £650. I’m currently with LV who have come down to £760. The LV cover is marginally better but the reason I’m tempted to stay with them is how super easy they are to deal with.

Has anyone here needed to make a claim with Admiral? I was insured with them a number of years ago, I didn’t make any claims but their process somehow didn’t feel pleasant. Quite possibly they are fine to speak with if you need to…though I don’t know.

What’s better about the LV cover ?

It may not be applicable to your car, but Admiral cover the glass sunroof under the windscreen glass excess, but a lot of insurers don’t. Not sure if LV still do this.

I’ve had claims with LV, and it was ok apart from they repaired the wrong bit of the car lol. They also heavily push their back street repair network, and the job was average at best.

My LV quote ended up with a lower excess but it’s not enough to account for the extra cost. The quotes are a bit more complex as they also include my wife’s TT for which the difference is under £30, the excess ended up the same for the BM and TT due to the Admiral system. The sunroof coverage is worth having, I don’t believe LV include it as they say “windscreen”. I’ll dig into that.

They all push their own repair networks nowadays, it’s how they can keep their costs down or get you to pay an extra £200…

Prices do appear to be coming down. I just did a quick quote on a comparison site and premiums were about £100 lower than I paid in November, down to around £480

It is very much dependant on location, where I live is a fairly cheap postcode for insurance but they still doubled my insurance last November

I had to make a claim through Admiral a few years back, very easy to deal with and would recommend using them again.

What peevs me with the Insurance is the renewals. I think it was Admiral and the renewal, think it was against our Golf R before we swapped in to the 30d, was higher so shopped around and found a better deal. You then call to stop the auto renewal and they make an offer close to what you've just signed up too...whats the point!!!!!, send that out the fecking first time round and we could all have saved ourselves 30mins of our lives.

Tesco were the best price for me via Confused.com at £625. It really is a total lottery.

Admiral cover the glass roof as do Elephant and Hastings. As you say many don’t, just windscreen. You have to check and don’t assume.

Because they rely on laziness. How many people don’t bother to shop around and accept the renewal? They make a fortune through apathy.

These insurance companies really are sharks. Just one example…Aviva have their own website which for two cars: M40i and TT came out to over £1,700. I then quote via a comparison site - this goes via “Aviva Online” but uses my existing Aviva account for documents..the price for the two cars is £860.

Yup, it’s crazy. I found Admiral was cheaper via its own website than all comparison sites at the time. Same details, so the sites are not always the cheapest and it pays to double check.

The other thing is the difference in APR the comparison sites quote for the same insurer if you pay monthly.

Insurance needs a proper independent investigation. Trouble is I bet the major insurance companies are political donors so they get left to pedal their daylight robbery.

So, after the shit show of last year when Saga raised my premium from around £550 -> £900ish, they wanted knocking on £1100 for renewal. WTAF.

Confused.com got me Admiral (gold or whatever) for £650, so on the right trajectory again :->

I use Admiral, but interestingly, it was cheaper when I got a direct quote compared to the comparison sites for the same cover from Admiral.

That’s encouraging news and it seems the premiums may be on the decline, mines not due again until April so fingers crossed.

Currently being quoted around £600-£650, and paid similar in March this year. Looks like prices from some insurers are reducing compared to last year. My first year was around £320 lol.

Wish my insurance was that cheap. I pay ~£1500 for my new X3 in London. Though of course my problem is I am a stinky filthy foreigner with only two years UK driving experience. Never mind the previous 34 years experience in Australia without a single claim! Though was pleased when I changed cars from a 2018 X1 to the X3 the cost difference was only £150.
