EU License Plate activates parking sensor
Hi all,
Forgive me if this has been discussed previously. I did some searching but couldn't find anything directly relevant. I shipped my US spec 2019 M40i to the EU. I just received my new license plates. After I mounted them, the front plate seems to continuously trigger the driver side proximity sensor when at slow speeds. I examined the mounting and it doesn't seem to be obviously covering any of the sensors. What, if anything, can be done to fix this? Removing the front plate isn't an option here, as from experience I am very sure that I will be constantly pulled over. Thanks in advance! |

I thought the sensors are in a much lower area along the bumper area, which is nowhere near the upper portion of the tailgate where ANY license would be mounted. I suppose I could be mistaken.

Same here. EU plates and no problems. Picture might help.

I wonder if there is some coding difference in the front sensors. US plates are much narrower than EU/UK.

This is how mine looks like. The plate is thin, so I don't think any coding would be needed. Although I don't have it in a frame (yes, it's drilled to the bumper and I'm ok with it).

In the first reply the OP says he: "used a mounting frame"....was it the exact "BMW mounting frame" that came with the car or one you supplied yourself"?
IF it wasn't the original BMW mounting frame perhaps that's "bouncing back" the signals from the sensors?? |

That frame looks quite thin. Obvious question - are the sensors clean? You wrote "driver side proximity sensor" - that doesn't seem like the sensor near license plate, rather on more on the side - in the boomerangs. Do you know for sure, which one is triggered?

Seems to be more on the side but hard to tell based on what is on the screen. Did not happen at all until I mounted the front plate. It is obviously not as intended as its either an extremely fast beeping or continuous tone. Makes the whole system useless and extremely annoying.
