I am sympathetic and supportive of your position on physical buttons. Best wishes getting NHTSA to even kickoff an ANPRM. They usually tend toward performance standards and not design requirements.

To close the loop on everything:

Order placed at dealer 4/25
Order entered "In production" phase and VIN assigned on 4/30
Actual construction began, and was completed, from 5/12 to 5/13
QC and carrier allocation on 5/14
Arrived at my dealership in Minnesota on 5/16

Unfortunately I haven't been able to pick it up yet, but I'll be getting it on Saturday. Amazed how quickly the process went.

Nice, enjoy! I ordered 5/1 (they used an in flight allocation), 5/20 prod date but built on 5/17. Cleared QC and in transit 5/20 to IL with Genius saying expected arrival 5/25. My Garage showed at dealership on 5/21 but they didn't have the car yet per CA (assuming it might be there but had just been dropped off or in PDI?).

Not a 40i, but I just tried to order a UK spec 30e and have been told no production slots are left.

Not 100% sure how true, I suspect the dealer is trying to offload stock vehicles as they have been pretty hard on pushing those, and most annoyingly ones that don't even have the basic features I want.

May be due to which plant BMW use to assemble that model.

I don’t think they are assembled in SA, which covers most of the UK G01 production, apart from hybrid/BEV variants.

I’d imagine the dealers want to clear G01 stock sharpish, before the G45 arrives.

The 30e is the PEHV which currently comes from the US but next model from South Africa.

I wouldn't mind stock if they had something close to what I was after, but not buying something that doesn't meet requirements and find it hard to believe that all production slots are gone.

I’m not 100%, but Spartanburg will likely shift to G45 production before Rosslyn, hence there are reports of some G01 being shipped from SA to US.

Sounds like you maybe out of luck unless a UK dealer already has a car in the production pipeline that can be still be amended to you spec.
