What app you are using for OBDii?
Thanks!
My OBD2 app is the OBDEleven app, which unfortunately requires their OBD2 adapter. I had originally purchased that since they're tight with VAG and I wanted to do some light coding on my spouse's Q5. They've since expanded to BMWs and honestly, for what I need are pretty good. Bimmercode is still more powerful due to its expert mode though.

This did give me a reason to finally try Bimmerlink/Bimmercode for the first time since I purchased them along with the USB-C to ENET adapter for my Android phone. Bit of a connectivity learning curve there but I have no permanent errors stored according to Bimmerlink. In fact all it showed was these:

Beautiful interior, but how would you keep that clean if you sit on it with blue jeans.

Leather has always been seating surface only on just about any manufacturer except maybe Rolls Royce.

Perhaps "always" depends on how old one may be.

I can recall as a Product Planner at a domestic OEM in the 80s working with a Program Management cost reduction task and coordinating with Design Office to convert the leather on the cushion and backrest bolsters to vinyl from what had been a fully leather seat. The seating surfaces (inserts) remained leather for cushion and back. This also caused us to have to meet with the advertising expert in the General Counsel's office to determine the proper new language for catalogs (remember them?) and ads..."leather trimmed seating", "leather seating surfaces", etc. For one car, we took the entire rear seat from all leather to all vinyl when we learned about the rear seat occupany rate being so low. But, another premium model survived with 100% leather seat trim sets and even had matching leather on the door trim panel. All ancient history by now...

True that. The vinyl in a leather seat is critical. It keeps the seat taught while at same time providing give so the seats don't crack. RR and Bentley use full-grain leather.

Good website. I read most of it before I bought my italian sofa.

I'm not sure at what speed the surround view/rear camera is not accessible, as Drive Recorder only allows playback when stationary. You can usually select what camera you want to view iDrive via the panorama feature.
Is Drive Recorder standard on the 2021 X3 M40i ? If so how to retrieve it or check on it? Thanks.

Curious does this mean my car still has BMW Oil Service for free until March 30, 2026?!

Just got this 2018 X3 with 41K miles last week.

I can understand if it was Power indicator but I am referring to RPM.

I was going to post a video but it's not allowed on app.
Fuel usage does not directly correlate with RPM. It DOES directly correlate with throttle position (yes, I know, the B58 doesn't use a conventional throttle). Basically, when you call for more power by pressing the accelerator, the computer adjusts the valve timing and starts flowing more fuel through the injectors. Hence, more power and lower mpg.

You can see the opposite effect by winding it up in a lower gear, then letting off the pedal and letting the car slow in that gear. Engine can be turning 5,000 RPM or more but the MPG will be 90.

Dynamic or Adaptive Brake Lights

I saw someone else ask about this but no one posted an answer. Therefore, I want to raise the question again about Adaptive Brake Lights.

I know BMW has had this feature on other cars (M3 and M4) for example for many years but, does the G01 have this rear brake lighting as standard equipment, if not what option package includes it?

This is where if you brake very hard a second set of lights will turn on (being brighter), the intent is it will catch the attention of the driver behind you.

Thanks,

what kind of oil interval are folks doing right now on their M40s?

I am at 15k miles and I had an oil change done at 5k that I paid for myself and then another one at 9.5k as part of the annual service. Now, my next free annual one is in October but by then i'll likely have 18k miles which would be a 9k mile interval. It's really dumb BMW doesn't let you move these oil changes up ahead... so is everyone paying for an interim oil change? BMW claims a 10k mile interval is fine but it seems sketchy to me.

I'm doing the interim oil changes. Or rather I'm paying for them to be done. Can't countenance a 10k oil change on an engine that runs as hard as the B58.

Once a year for me as I'm a low mileage person being retired. 3k miles last year. Before that I was at 7500 miles max.

I put between 7,000 and 8,000 miles per year on my car and have it changed once per year.

Can I buy BMW Maintenance Programs Online?

Hi All,

BMW website directs me to "My Garage" with a "Buy Now" button for extended maintenance plans. Since the vehicle isn't delivered, I don't see any options for purchase. Must I purchase at the dealer or can I purchase online?

Dealer says I have to decide by delivery day. Genius said I could purchase anytime up until when the first maintenance period expires.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you!
