In my experience the 5W-30 is still al little too thick & takes to long to get up to ideal "preliminary" operating temps. Even in a mild climate & with fair weather where it's not that cold (like here in California). You guys can continue messing with & experimenting with different oil weights as much as you want. But I'm sticking with the 0W-30 the S58 was built with & will change it often.

When I went from 5W-30 in my tuned N55 to the same 0W-30 in my S58, the warm up times, MPG's & overall rev-happy nature of the engine was noticeable. The 5W-30 on the other hand wasn't ever necessary here.

BMW also recommends changing the oil every 10,000 miles… so there’s that lol.

Almost everyone switches to 5w-30 or 0w-40 on B58's now. BMW is stating oil weights based on emissions and MPG these days. There are many hands involved now. They want money.

This is correct and believe me, the engineers don't always know what's best.
