Exposed wires in trunk gate struts
Hi all.
I have a 2011 BMW X3 F25 which I purchased as a used on. Recently I have been trouble with the tail gate opening itself and sometimes does not want to close. (it stays closed if I lock the car.) After reading multiple threads on this forum, I did an inspection of the struts and I have found out both struts have one 'exposed' or 'uninsulated wire'. I am not sure if this is meant to be like that ? This was simply under the rubber covering with all the other insulated wires Also I was looking for the standard tail gate module, however I could not find one...but then I found a 'aluminum' style box behind the left side of the trunk...this looks like the 'module' you get when you retrofit. Now I am thinking did the previous owner retro fit it ? Does the genuine BMW tail gate module looks like a white box with three inputs on the side ? Can some one please check their X3 F25 struts and see if both have exposed wires ? |

Sorry for the late response, I did a thorough check and found out the tail gate module was next to the battery and yes its a genuine one. I took it out gave it a good clean with contact cleaner and compressed air. Do not believe it has water damage.
I then ran a check with bimmerlink and got this error code however I cannot figure out what is a hall sensor on x3. Is it the two motorized struts that lift the gate up ? |

Yes I located the module next to the battery. Its the genuine BMW module. I have ordered a new one and just got it received today. Will change the module tomorrow and see if it fixes my tail gate issue.

Sorry for the delay in update...was travelling extensively and away from computers and internets.
Well the same issue still exists. Nothing has changed. So I am assuming the module is all good. The latch lock system clicks responding to the button pressess...so I am assuming that's working too. I do have a second BMW X3, same year few months newer...but its parked at a different place. I checked the wires and they are not exposed. I have not had a chance to exchange the tailgate module from that car on to this...not sure if it makes any difference. I also have not found anything helpful with those error codes i received using bimmertool. |
