Differences between 2021 vs 2024 X3 M40i?
I am looking to buy a used X3 M40i CPO and find that I have to look at around a 2021 to find any serious depreciation in the pricing. However, I am unclear on the changes/improvements that have been made and what I am giving up.
Were there any significant problems/issues in the 2021? Your assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

I recommend the 2021 MY since it was the last year with B58TU without the 48v Mild hybrid. There are still low mileage models (25k miles) for around $40-42k. Pretty good price overall IMO, the market still wants to sell them for 44-47k.
I'm in a loaner 2024 sdrive30, and the tech in the car doesn't impress me. The sheer slowness of the up/down temperature control drives me batty, and the iDrive7 vs iDrive 6.5 changes don't improve anything for me personally. There's a phytonic blue in Savannah, GA that we almost looked at. It's been on the market so you might be able to haggle.

The LCI allows voice control or aircon.. I use it as is easier than turning a knob or pushing a button. |

Honestly I just want buttons that do what they've done well for decades. I use the gesture control to pause music playback, but even for volume I generally use steering wheel controls. I'm the same person that doesn't use Alexa/Google smart commands or anything of the sort though - they just get on my nerves and don't improve my daily habits.

I'm almost 50 years old and Hey Google is a game changer. Granted I like tactical buttons, but if BMW's voice command works as easy as Google does on my Android phone then I wont care how long it takes to change the temp setting in the vehicle.

I'll be 38 this year, and I do both corporate and my own side IT business. I can't count how many people use tech more than myself (a lot obviously) but I've also always gone by the reliable K.I.S.S. method. I've had clients spend a lot of money on fancy, elaborate, solutions (lights, speakers, other wifi contraptions) just trying to get them working. They do, usually, but not as reliably and it takes way more time tobuse them than it is worth, IMO. It pays for some of my nicer things in life though so I'll suggest and oblige, lol.

I like voice as it works well for me, and no need to take your hands off the wheel, plus I find gesture really useful, and more intuitive than steering buttons depending on the steering wheel angle at the time. I also like buttons for stuff that is instant, providing they are not in a stupid place. Never understood why BMW put the driver experience mode buttons down by the shifter, given you may want to change quickly on the fly, like on a fast winding stretch of road. You can change these by voice, but not instant. Last edited by avi66; 05-11-2024 at 07:13 AM.. |

Ironically humans didn't have the tech for those kinds of things first, so push button circuits came first. Just think of me as a touchy/feely caveman, poking and feeling my way around in the darkness.

I appreciate there are Chinese retro fit kits available, but the car is still in warranty, hence don’t want to risk an issue. |

Yeap 2nd that myself, warranty is a tricky ones to meddle with... look, all in all, facts are it is an aftermarket, it is a mods done, it is direct plug n play, oem pin to pin, it is no rewiring required, it uses back the default oem airbag with oem parts number, it is no sealed broken... with luck, x fingers, get it approved allowed under warranty |

I don't want the hassle of arguing with a dealer or having warranty denied, hence if it ain't BMW UK approved for my specific car model, it ain't getting fitted during the warranty period. |
