I'll add my two cents. Last 5 DDs have been '16 M235ix, '19 X5 40ix, '22 M4Cx, '22 X3 M40i (briefly), and '24 X3M. On winter tires the X3M is comparable to the M40i: firm but not harsh -- and far more compliant than the M235ix. My X3M arrived with Michelin PS4Ss, which I'm a month away from experiencing.
Another facet of ride comfort is seats: I much prefer the M sport seats available in the X3M (and not available in the X3 M40i). |

Just wanted to update: Took delivery of a 24' X3M Comp this am! Marina Blue fully loaded. I didnt want to potentially miss out on the 24 model year since the 25's would change the iDrive (i like physical buttons) - so pulled the trigger an earlier then expected.
My local dealer worked out a trade with another dealer north of us. Got to drive maybe 5 miles back home in it, and the suspension is way better than my E46 M3. LOL Thank you for all the insight/opinions! |

Fair! LOL
Only got a chance to drive it a few miles, but so far, loving the rawness of it. If that makes any sense. Reminds me of my garage queen E46 M3 this beauty shares the garage with now — except way more furious. lol |

I drove the X3 M40i after my M2C, wanting a softer ride. Everyone warned about the stiff ride of the X3M. I did find the M40i soft, but I have no idea what everyone is complaining about. In comfort, the X3M is fine. Yes it is overblown. Just another journalism thing. Obviously went with the X3M and scolded myself for ever caring what a youtuber says about a car.

Eyyyy, congrats on the new ride! Our cars are twins 🙂
Was gonna talk a lot about M40i and M differences, as I've owned both, but nevermind! Rides are similar, btw. Coming from non-BMWs, the ride is harsh, but not overbearing. It's my daily, so there were some days I was like "omg, I hate this bumpy effin ride" but most didn't bother me. I just had BC Racing coilovers installed and they are a dream compared to stock. I guesstimate about 20% softer and handling is improved. Highly recommend. KWs are great too, just pricey. If I were gonna be racing it, I would go KWs, but for anyone else, the BCs are an excellent compromise. |
