20" Square w/275's front?

I am thinking about going with a square setup this time around. I understand that for a 20" square setup, ideally you would go 20x10 +25 for all 4, and you can run 275/40/20s for the fronts. My question for those that have done this, are there any adverse performance/handling/suspension wear implications in running 275s up front?

Check the M40i aftermarket wheel thread. Many folks have done this and liked it. All those aspects you mentioned can be subjective but square makes for a more neutral handling and tougher steering due to increased rubber. There’s more impact else where but would be great to have a sticky on this general info….

0 issues . Imo, it’s the best spec for this platform.

The car will handle differently and you will notice.
Whether you like it or not is subjective and just depends on your preference.
Square setup = more over steer
Staggered = more under steer

20x10 front does look good and you can rotate tires obviously if you care about that.
The choice is yours.

I imagine the square 20x10 setup would not be so good in winter.

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread. Had anyone used a set of the 20 inch rear wheels in the front? I think they are 9.5” vs the 10” mentioned above. I know offset also plays a part along with width to determine if it will rub, etc. I’m wanting to buy a pair of the OR 699m rear wheels on out them in the front so I can run 275/49 or 275/45 on all 4.

Thanks. Not sure how much the offset matters for clearance on the inside but your aftermarket +25 offset would give 17mm more clearance on the inside edge than the OEM 20x9.5 which is +43 I believe for the 699m wheels. That’s quite a bit more clearance for the extra width of the wheel and tire. Anyone do the OEM 20x9.5 +43 wheels on the front with 275/40 or 275/45 tires?

I am running a square setup with 275/40/20 tires on my m40i. Wheels are custom 20x10 et25. I absolutely love it. Car is much more nutural handling, and i like the extra steering weight with the larger front tires. Running Michlen all season 4 tires and they are great all around tires. Just got back from a weekend ski trip and handeled great through blizzard conditions.

Do you think you would have space for 275/45 tires?

My dad and I both run 275/40/20 squared on our X3M's and it handles great. We run winter tires but the cars feels quite nimble still despite going wider up front. I really like it. I wouldn't recommend going up to a 275/45/20 though.

Would the 275/40/20 square set up work on my 2022 x drive 30i? On 20x10 rims with 25 offset?

anyone think these would fit?

ADV5.0 FLOWspec Wheels
20x10.5 ADV5.0 DC 5x112 ET32 BS7.0 Platinum 66.56

265 front/ 275/285 rear

calculator.
Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 23.1mm closer to the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 15.1mm more than before.

This setup will work with a spacer up front (7mm - 10mm). Why would you stagger the tires?

Because that’s the OEM way I don’t want to throw off the awd system too much although the 9 > 10.5 is a big change

It’s the OEM way because it comes with staggered wheels. You won’t “throw off” the Xdrive by running squared tires
