Yep, going the DIY route.

Unlike the LCI, the pre-LCI don't require removing the bumper nor removing the headlights all the way out. But folks are having to "cut" into the top of the headlight assembly??? Maybe not. And i think you also need to realign the headlights afterwards even after a (slight) nudge, or at least re-check its aims.

Correct. No bumper removal and no cutting anything. As far as headlight alignment goes, my driver light was about 1/2" higher than passenger..adjusted it down, no big deal. There are a lot of key steps I've found out to take so pm me once your near ready to install. It's gonna be worth the time and effort!

I figure i'd be down 90 bucks vs 350 if they no longer function. All works great so far, only time will tell!

I'm using BayOptiks for pre-LCI 2020 X3 G01 and working great. Pre-LCI had problems for a verrryyyy long time from all vendors but looks like it is working without any issues now. LCI had less issues from what I saw and also should be working fine.

Modules from any vendor should work as long as they have updated inventory that is confirmed to be working without any issues.

This video is pretty spot on on what I did for the module removal..minus the dremeling of the housing. That would suck big time if your DRL ends are burnt because now you have water intrusion onto the pcb..

The passenger side leaves you with even LESS room to work with the module and required me to become a brain surgeon to perform the re-connection of the plug to the module using L-shaped pick tools. You will have to pry harder at the headlight housing on the passenger side to squeeze out the module. Keep in mind to pry the housing up and outwards for maximum room.

this isn't a dig just an observation
back in the days i remember getting the GP thunder 7500K halogen bulbs and then upgrading to LUX H8 LEDs on my E92 just to get rid of the amber color on the angel eyes. white LEDs were the obsession.

now i've been rocking the yellow CS style leds on my F97 for almost a year now. it's just a matter of standing out in the sea of G01 brooklyn grey X3s around my area.

I didn't even think about the passenger side for any difference, but looks like it is, urgh...

Was there something different about the passenger side that makes this difference, including the headlight housing pulling out a bit is even harder on that side?

So, does turning the DRL module "to its side" help at all (???) with access to the plug? In the video seems like so.

The clearance for the module is even smaller than the driver side. The wires for the plug is even shorter than the driver side(at least mine was) which made it more difficult to plug it in. it didn't give me enough slack to side plug it hence why I said I turned into brain surgeon with the picks lol
