I'll be doing a tune up this weekend (oil change, spark plugs, air filters, and if they arrive in time, rear brake pads (also Xhp tune) and wanted to get feedback on which plugs to use.
I've spent a few days surfing around the web and reading through other threads already containing similar info and I'm overwhelmed with how inconsistent the opinions are on which to use, even on some manufacturer sites. Along with various opinions on plugs, there is equally as much conflicting info on proper electrode gap. In this regard, I'll be sticking to factory .030 as I'm currently running near stock (Intake, charge pipe, DP, and turbo "obviously"all stock) with JB4 map1 and the soon to be Xhp trans tune this weekend as well, considering jumping right to stage 2. So back to spark plugs. My initial desire was to upgrade from the stock Champions to NGKs. With a Gen2, B58tu, in my 2021 M40i (build date 11/2020) I'm undecided between the NGK SILZKGR8B8S (94201) and the supposedly B58 Gen2 proper NGK SILZKGR8E8S (96206). Any and all advice, as always, is appreciated. Especially from those running similar MY motor and build to my own. LET THE WAR ON B58 SPARK PLUGS BEGIN! 🤣 |

Just get what came with your car, gap to .030 and be done with it 😆 Unless you're pushing 800+, then the debate can begin.

Free plugs for life. Gen 2 B58TU at stock Gap with JB4 Maps 1 to 6, if you combined that with a Fuel it kit to run E85 I gapped it to .022 to help it run smoother on maps 3 to 6. Head was redesigned a little and the longer plug was used apparently. LOL New Gen 3 B58 uses a diff plug I read somewhere. Last edited by Burr001; 03-14-2024 at 11:17 PM.. |

So you recommend NGK 96206? If so, what gap should I use? Thank you |

You should be using stock gap..but once you start u e85 or higher octane then gap lower is what I was told.

I had a similar setup recently but am only running JB4 map 1 on 94 octane now. Was running Map 2 and for a short stint map 3 but when the hotter temps started up I felt I was having driveability issues and loss of power. After running logs timing issues were growing with the IAT increase. Lesson: Keep an eye on those logs when running higher boost maps with JB4. |
