622m wheel corrosion
So my Apr 15 build car has been trouble free, till I started to notice corrosion on the wheels coming from the centre caps, affects all 4 wheels, but the rears seem much worse than the fronts.
It's at the dealers tomorrow, but they have rang to say the wheels are on back order so it sounds like they are looking to replace them. Anyone else had this problem? |

I have 622M wheels on a Mar 16 car, but haven't noticed any corrosion.
There have been a few threads on the F30 UK forum where 403M wheels have suffered corrosion and most have been replaced without too much difficulty. |

A year ago some X4 owners had same problem with their 310 20" rims. BMW acknowledged that there was a supplier issue (without really saying so) - all rims were replaced at no cost.

Pretty straightforward today, confirmed all wheels will be replaced under warranty, only issue is they are on back order so will be a wait.

This will depend on your status with the dealer, as ours was a long one, the dealer put the case to BMW as long time customers, the replacement of ours was outside warranty.
So it is down to your dealership to a certain extent. |

One of my rears is also showing some marks eminating from the centre hub. I will be expecting a replacement under warranty as the car has only completed 14500 miles

That is good to know, they just fitted my TMPS sensors to my winter set, so I will go see them this week and discuss the summer (original) alloys. Knowing others have had them replaced under warranty is very good news and interesting that they replaced all 4 as a set.

Rang the dealership and he suggested I book the car in (so they can examine the wheels), I will get this looked at when she goes in for her first service.

They had mine for a day to do that... but as it's next door to work it's no issue as it must have taken them about 5 minutes

I was at the dealers last week, having TMPS sensors fitted to my winter set, and they suggested emailing the pictures through. Haven't heard anything back yet, but i don't envisage any issues with replacement as the issue is prevalent across the BMW range

Still no news on my replacements yet though. Not too bothered at the minute as the car is that filthy you can't see the wheels

Yes, the clear coat has lifted on mine due to water getting underneath and oxidising which once it starts won't stop, it's got a lot worst in the last few weeks

I have a 2016 X3M purchased new. I noticed in June 2023 bubbling/corrosion in center of two rims by cap. Called dealership, sent pictures, my dealership is 50 miles away. Basically “blew me off” said it’s due to road salt, etc. I could have them refinished by their rim guy, but would be my cost and can’t guarantee it won’t happen again. At the time I didn’t know this had been a problem other owners experienced. I’m certain the dealership was aware of this, but made me feel like it was something I had caused/issolated incident.
I’ve been paying more attention to rims on other bmw’s and haven’t noticed this even on way older models. Going in next week for oil change and plan to address this rim issue again. Of course, my vehicle is out of warranty when I noticed this. Otherwise, I’ve been very happy with my x3M( black sapphire, saddle tan interior) is why I kept it longer than I usually do. My SA retired, so I won’t be able to have any imput there. I’ve been a loyal customer at this dealership for 25+ years. This is so aggravating, it’s now obvious to me there is definitely something wrong with the quality of the rims and….dealership was aware of this issue. Any advice would appreciate! |

I've got a 2015 X3 with the 622m wheels and they are corroding from the center and edges as well. It is indeed due to road salt and etc. getting into anywhere there was a scratch or something like that. Part of having a car you drive in the winter. Tons of occurrences of this up here in MN.
