Everything is better on 20" wheels... its true

Am I the only one that thinks 20" is a much happier place to be owning these cars as daily drivers?

Faster acceleration, better braking, much more compliant ride (particularly if the ISTEP update redudes the rebound rates, as many have posted.. I haven't yet tried it myself, but I did often put the car in sport versus comfort, and it actually felt more comfortable driving hard around town.. it bounces around too much in comfort with my 03/2020 ISTEP version).

My car came with 21s, and living in Montreal Canada I needed winters, so I got a set of 20" Chinese replicas for the salt and slush... I am now SERIOUSLY bummed out going back to the 21s.. everything about the car, is a little worse.

Honestly, even visually.. I like some meat in my SUVs rubber. I genuinely think it looks better on the 20s with proper rim width/offset and keep trying to imagine what it'd look like with juicy 265/45/20 front and 295/40/20 rubber in the rear

am I alone out here?

I understand your thought process. But I'll stick with the 21's on lower tire pressures + MSS springs.

I also respect your opinion, but no chance I'm risking my life on a set of replicas while "spirited" driving.

oh definitely agree with that! It was only for the winter wheels.. but I am seriously considering ordering a set of OEM 20s to replace the 21s...

the replicas do the job for winter duty, but gravity cast with a conservative offset doesn't do great for a summer setup

ps, how do you find the ride on your Velar vs the X3M comp? My wife is due for a new car soon, and we're thinking about replacing her GLC with a Velar or Defender (if we can fit it in our garage).

The aesthetics of 20s don't work for me. My winter set is 20" but I love putting the 21s back on.

I think you may be confusing tire diameter with tire type.

It likely has a lot less to do with 1 inch and more to do with a winter vs summer tire.

I would be curios to hear your comparison on summer 21s vs summer 20s.

My winter 20s are a lot more forgiving but at high speed and cornering they are no comparison to the summers.

That said, I don’t think it would be much less performance on a summer 20.

I agree with this. The X3M doesn't stand out enough visually for me from the regular X3. The wheels are one of the few things that help differentiate so I wouldn't want to forego them.

I’ll stick with 21s. It’s good to have options though.

I have the factory 20"s and like the look. I think the ride quality with them is fine, especially after the ISTA upgrade. Glad I picked them over the 21s. I don't like the limited Michelin tire choices with the 20's, and will likely get the PS4-SUV tires by end of summer, depending how long my Pirelli P-Zero's last.

Going from the stock contis 21" to wider ps4s 21" was a massive improvement in ride quality. Even better than my 20" winters. Especially after the istep update.

Check the tread wear rating on the SUV version - it is terrible.

Hm, difficult to describe the Velar. It does everything "ok," but has no stand out attributes, besides the "looks." I have the 380hp supercharged and it just doesn't feel sporty or luxurious(space&ride quality) enough and can feel a bit cramped. Your experience may be different as I came from a RRS thinking I didn't need the space and figured I save some money on the wife's car. I would go defender at a lower entry point or if you can kick it, the RRS, which remains my favorite SUV. Good luck!

So I have a X3MC and I guess the smallest rim I can go to is 20". I am looking for a dedicated winter set up with stock rims and these are the most pleasing to me visually. What is the number designation accosiated with these rims? They look nice!

Those are 764M Bi-color (orbit gray with burnished face).

I have 764M Orbit Gray (no burnished face) for my winter set.
