Updating i-level with bm3 tune
Does anyone know for certain if you have a bm3 tune and you want the dealer to update your software for the idrive to latest version that they lock the dme?

Rumors I've heard are they cant update a modified DME, and/or if you update a recent DME it will relock as its a full flash update. So really, no confirmed details. I'd say have a go and report back so we know for sure. Ha.

Die? I was a bmw tech for a few years. The only thing they hook up is the icom cable to the obd port and Ethernet cable to the ista computer.

When you get tuned, you have to, AT ALL COSTS, keep the dealer from updating your vehicle or risk the DME getting re-locked. I went as far as buying an OBD2 port cap that says for them to contact owner before removing. I even let them know beforehand what I'm there for and to NOT connect a damn thing to my vehicle. Lol. I live in Alaska so I have to ship my DME out to get unlocked and I'm not trying to do that more than absolutely necessary. This was on my previous vehicle. I have yet to go down the tuning rabbit hole with my F97.
