Just Picked up a 2020 X3M ... more lost than i thought

Hey all, Just traded in my Audi A4 for a X3M.However in driving it home I kept thinking how does one strike the balance between this is an M car and it was made to be pushed and also making sure your gentle enough so things dont break from you pushing it too hard.

Its still under warranty and honestly day 1 i did sport plus just once since i need to work up to that coming from a 7 second 0-60 A4 .

Just push it when you want and go hard. It is made for it. Throw everything into comfort/efficient when you want to (mostly) forget you’re in an M car.

Quite a transition that. I drive the opposite to dooooooook I like the comfort and lazy drive so it’s stuck in comfort 99% of the time. I guess I’m happy with the thought “it can when I want it”

On the street? You'd most likely be arrested, run out of talent or cause an accident before you pushed it too hard on the street to cause you to break something, unless you drive like a raging lunatic when you get behind the wheel.

Welcome to the forum lol

I like the thought of it's there when i want it as mentioned above... I push it when i want but drive "relaxed" most of the time... BUT even in relaxed i at least like the sport settings... good luck with it!

I appreciate your insights and driving habits guys, from even this small sample i get a feeling it takes quite a lot of tracking, launching etc to really strain these things! going to probably lean towards comfort and mix in sport + when that Mustang 5.0 rolls up next to me and thinks he has a shot

Please report back after you use the launch control for the first time

Can you explain how to use Launch Control? I am on my 3rd X3M and never have used it once.

I have heard you have to drive it 6 miles first
or something to that extent. Thx

If you've had three X3M's and haven't used L/C once, then chances are you don't even need to at this point

Not sure if you're trolling me,but it's all in the owners manual of you decide to dust it off and give it a go

I’m not trolling when I say I haven’t used or tried launch control on any of my previous cars, just don’t have any desire to even give it a go

Honest question, but why did you get an x3m if you plan on driving in comfort 99% of the time? I went back and forth between the x3m and x3 m40i and settled on the m40i since it’s plenty fast but also a little comfier for the family. Enjoy the car, blast to drive in any setting.

Even with a lead foot you're not going to break anything on this machine. Go ahead & try if you want. The only things you might destroy in the process is your license. The X3 M has the powertrain from the M3/M4 & the drivetrain from the TT V-8 powered M5. Theres no way you can break this in stock form on the street. No matter what you think, the X3 M was built to enjoy. So have some fun with it & don't be afraid to goose the throttle once in a while.

Why would it break from driving it like it’s built for? If you’re looking to drive gentle you could have saved a ton of money.

I feel like the potholes are going to break it.

Edited to add: or any minor road imperfections…

There are videos on youtube explaining how to engage launch control. I set my m2 button to all these specific settings so I can just quickly pop into that mode.

funny post....the x3m has a racing engine with all its forged components, it has multiple radiators for christ sake, multiple, so just drive it and enjoy it. any car can be drive like a grandmother owner, but not any car can be driven like a true sports vehicle. you can drive a Ferrari like a hyndai pony if you want....but why, like someone said you can save a ton of cash if you not going to put the pedal to the metal, or floorboard carpet,.....whatever. drive the hell out of it and enjoy your new ultimate toy.

Go to any main city in the world and those Ferrari’s, Lambos, Aston Martins, Porsches etc etc are cruising to be seen in. I bet hardly any get taken on track days. Like I said, I like the thought that it can.
And besides, I don’t know about you guys over to pond but here in the UK you can lose your licence on just about any main roads these days, bloody cameras, speed traps or unmarked police cars everywhere. And try and enjoy the car on country roads and the chances are you go round a bend straight into a cyclist or a horse or tractor. A neighbour in our village was sent off his cycle, over a hedge and now resides in heaven by just such a person driving pedal to the metal.
Further, why do people buy Rollers or Bentleys, that Hyundai Pony will get you from A to B but folks like luxury and the “I’ve done very well for myself” feeling
