Technically yes but the minimum octane for a modern turbocharged BMW is 91 octane (per the manufacturer) so we have to assume that is the lowest that will ever go into the tank.

You can run 93 octane on the 91 tune and get some additional benefit out of it since the DME will naturally adapt to a bit more timing with the better fuel. Won't be up to the full optimized 93 tune level but would be better.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around what is what & what was in this regard. Hope you can provide some clarity here as I like this software for the 2020 DME.
Steve sold the company to private equity in 2014. He stayed on as President for 2 more years before he left and went to Ganassi Racing for a year or so. When that stint concluded he came back and purchased the service centers from the previate equity owned Dinan and started Carbahn in ~2018/2019.

Dinan itself has went through few group changes since private equity took over -- originally with the Flowmaster, Hurst, B&M group (and later purchase of APR) and then now currently with the Holley group which has ~70 brands in the group.

To my knowledge none of the original software engineers/calibration team from the 2017 and earlier versions of the company are on either staff. The hardware engineering side however has folks in both companies from the original iteration. When Dinan moved to AL in 2018 to create the Euro campus for the group (with APR) we essentially combined knowledge bases and the engineering departments integrated with one another.

Lots of additional nuance to all of it but thats the 30000 foot view at least.

I know this is an old post but are there any chances this will ever become available for the 21+?

"Ever" is a long time so I feel pretty confident in saying yes, there is a chance. =)

I'm seriously considering the DINAN STAGE 1 PERFORMANCE ENGINE SOFTWARE for my 2020 X3 M with a 11/2019 build date. Do you know what kind of HP & TQ gain would be had if we occasionally ran 93 on the 91 map... ?

The reason I'm wondering if you have a percentage increase approximation... is simply because where I live in Norther CA, 98% of the places around here only have 91. There's a few spots that sell 100 & I can due the quick math to bump up my existing 91 up to 93. But that's only on a blue moon.

Never been tested that way so don't have definitive data to point to but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if you saw up to a 15-20 HP/TRQ improvement naturally after the DME adapted timing for the better fuel.

That sounds reasonable. With that being said, do you know how long a 91 octane DINAN flashed DME would take to adapt to a full tank of 93.. ?

Varies depending on driving habits but 50-100 miles typically.

I should've shared this with you sooner. Feel free to forward to the 19:30 mark. I sure wish the DINAN software products could fully adapt to different octane levels in "just 4 WOT pulls." That sure would be nice.

And no, I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes with with CarBahn stuff. Just pointing out some of the coolest & latest tech.
