Oil change reset**

So, the GF/wife/partner had some dudes at a Valvoline change her oil and her "oil needs to be changed" has not been reset.

She called the dealership and they said reset and oil changes have to be done at dealership (which I imagine is bunk). 2021 X3 M40i - 35++k miles.

Any help - ideas??

thnx.

Go into diagnostic mode(click engine start button 3 times)
Hold the button in your dash to the bottom left until your vehicle options pop up.
Push the button to cycle through until you get the oil change option.
Hold the button while on oil change and follow through with addition button presses for reset.
Done

Super simple. Dealership trying to get into your wallet.

That advise from Dealership would sever the relationship permanently for me.

Same dudes that smoked me on my Veterans discount. Starting to wonder.

Also - she's at soccer trying to do it. Says there is no "button" in bottom left corner.

First, I would watch/check real close for the next few weeks to make sure these “dudes” at Valvoline didn’t screw up anything…like over-tighten/under-tighten the drain plug, not install the correct filter, or not put in enough oil. These quick oil change places have a tendency to screw up a lot of BMW owners over the decade. Not to say they did…but they (quick oil change places) don’t have a stellar record.

There are multiple instrument cluster setups…when your cluster doesn’t have an odometer reset button…you have to use the BC button on the tip of the turn indicator.

Hopefully she’ll pickup the nuance of how to initiate the sequences…she will need to grasp long/short presses to either initiate, set, or pass on to the next prompt since there are multiple services that can be reset.

Here’s the instructions:
