TPMS on Winter Tires Required?
Wondering if my 2022 X3 M40i would have any issues if I drove without TPMS on my winter tires. I just got new winter rims and tires (not run-flat tires btw) from blackcircles.ca. I didn't get an additional set of TPMS yet and a call to my local dealership quoted me $765 plus tax for a set of 4 sensors. Would there be constant beeps at me regarding tire pressure or would there just be a light on the dashboard?
I have my local auto shop mounting the tires on the rims for around $100. They would also want to install the TPMS if I decide to get it but just wondering if it's optional or not. |

Not sure how Canadian cars are programmed but mine would alert me and beep and then have a warning on constantly. It's only $200 for four sensors and the car allows multiple to be paired to the car. Why not have piece of mind knowing they're good to go without the lights on in the dash?

An update for anyone who cares - I found a website called TPMS247.com that have the OEM TPMS sensors for around $41 each. After tax, shipping, and conversion - it works out to around $259 CDN total.
Appreciate everyone's help and bringing to light that $200 is about the appropriate amount to spend and not $850 after tax. |

Make sure you get the pre-programmed ones, specific to your Make/Model. If you get the "universal" ones that can be programmed, you most likely won't get them to work. The one's on rockauto.com work well and aren't terribly expensive.

I concur... your quote was absolutely nuts and there are cheaper alternatives. Honestly TPMS is super handy and is helpful for both your safety as well as general tire longevity through proper pressures. I wouldn't skip it. Unless you want to be one of those savages with dash lights on all winter.
Its also more useful than ones i had int he past as these ones tell me actual pressure and temperature per tire, and they also alter the recommended fill pressures based on pressure. I programmed the TPMS screen to one of the dash quick buttons. Also having 2 sets of tires you'll have both for a long time so the cost is essentially spread out. |

Unclear. Haven't mounted them yet. Can report back when it's winter, if I remember. 😂

It's a one time and minimal cost so it wasn't worth skipping, especially since I'm not on RFTs. |

For those of us in the UK, 4 x OEM BMW sensors/valves for £200, not a bad price.

Ben at r33_RGSport sells some and they are pretty decently priced IMO, I just bought some a week ago for my winters. 140 USD
