Transfer case calibration procedure
Hi fellows,
More than one month ago I drained the fluid and filled fresh BMW fluid. Immediately after that the car started shifting badly. Then I drove for week or two and then calibrated the VTG in ISTA. I noticed the value was 29 before and 0 after, so basically it was reset. That procedure made the shifting smooth and I was very satisfied. When the procedure was done the average consumption on my dash that was average around 12l per 100km went to 17 on the spot without even starting the engine. Driving for several days made that go down to 14l, but not anymore. Most of you are in US, so the equivalent will be from 19mpg to change to 16. I think that this is the new normal now for my car, but I was wondering if anyone experienced this after VTG calibration? |

I also did the calibration after flush using ISTA +. Said my calibration value was 11.1 with an adjustment of -0.1 degrees. I did this all in one step before takingt he car for a test drive. Didn't notice any change in mpg.

The problem with the fuel consumption is resolved after new pump, thermostat and fresh coolant. The calibration coincided with water pump problem. The fan was running on max most of the time plus very bad shifting I guess limp mode.

Calibration after transfer case replacement
Replacing the transfer case in the neighbor's 2006 X3 with a used one removed from 2008 X3. After replacement, the vehicle is grinding and popping and not drivable. We believe it needs to be recalibrated. Anyone in the Detroit area (48315) would be able to help us with this? We'll pay for your time.
Thanks, |

I replaced the transfer case in 2006 X3 with another used transfer case and motor removed from 2008 X3. After replacement, the car makes a loud popping sound when the transfer case engages. Then I reset both transfer case and motor to zero, but problem still exists. Any suggestion? |
