2015 BMW X3 28i xDrive Engine failure with under 70,000 miles
Hi all,
Just wanted to post that the first BMW I ever purchased has had an engine failure with less than 70,000 miles. Discovered via strange buzzing noise from the engine and found tons of metal in the oil filter and cap. Unfortunately, BMW will not stand behind their product so looks like I'm out a lot of money and will be looking for more reliable/quality brands that stand behind their product. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this as well. |

Sorry to hear about your problem.
What, did you expect BMW or any other manufacturer for that matter, to buy you a new engine for an 8 year old vehicle that's out of warranty |

Same
Same with our engine for 2016 x3
Lost power on highway. Coasted off to breakdown lane. No warnings on dashboard prior. Only thing on dashboard was N and transmission failure. Towed to our dealership. Informed catastrophic engine failure. The only thing was car at dealership two days prior for oil change. So far, BMW engineer cannot find out the cause. Search on internet, found recalls in Australia for engine failure. |

Would you think it's just coincidence regarding the oil change, two days prior? Car has 125k. Can it be possible that you can't find cause of the failure. Awaiting word from dealership.

I did my research BEFORE I bought our first BMW
The 2013 and up 28i (2.0L 4 cylinder) is known for this issue That’s why I bought a 2011-2012 28i with the bulletproof N52 engine (NA I6) 185K miles and nothing but oil changes and maintenance items…. |

My dad and I purchased our 2017 x3 at 50k KM (31,000miles), it was babied, only issue it came with was a leaking rear diff through the seals, which I replaced and refilled with brand new diff oil, I changed all the fluids (trans, engine, diff's, transfer case, brake fluid, coolant), no delay's. This is our second BMW, first was a E36 and now this F25 2017 X3 Currently at 170k KM (105,000miles), I am trying hard to convince my dad to buy the X3 M.... I need more power... I just have to get my dad to say the same lol... it's the part where a 4banger pushing a SUV that doesn't make sense to me, but don't get me wrong, the N20 has power. But for how long can it continue to push a SUV weight long term? time will tell.

Had the car for 4 years,so miles were maybe 30K. All maintenance at said dealership. Mostly highway miles.
Does anyone think it's a coincidence that car had oil change two days prior? |
