Hi all,
Does anyone have staggered 19-inch wheels on their X3/iX3?
Considering 19x9 ET28 265/50 front, and 19x10 ET40 295/45 rear.

I'm not sure what you mean by "staggered" wheels. Is this the use of different widths front and rear? This is what the Premier Edition Pro (pre-LCI) came with - Front 245/45R20 and Rear 275/40R20. Being rear wheel drive, the tail can be excitable in the wet, so definitely pleased to have the wider tyres on the back.

The problem I can see with the sizes you quoted is they have a different radius to the stock wheels. And hence your speedometer will read incorrectly. Also, the max tyre width for a 10" wheel is 285mm; you should really be looking at an 11" wheel for that tyre. The bulging tyres may look cool on a Citroen Saxo, but I'm not sure about the safety of a 2.25 tonne SUV with a torquey engine.

According to the BMW website, they specify 245/50R19 front and rear on the M Sport. I'm not sure whether this is correct - the same page also says that the M Sport Pro has 19" wheels, but it actually has 20" wheels. These tyres have a radius of 726mm, and a 122mm sidewall. This is a match for my tyres - 728mm.

The tyres you specified have a radius of 747mm and a sidewall 132mm. This will give a 3% error on the speedo. Also, most people try to go for a lower sidewall, to give a more low profile look to the tyre. Going for a higher profile tyre seems strange.

Would it not make more sense to go with 265/45R19 and 295/40R19, which are a much closer match to the original tyre diameter?

Personally if I was going to the huge expense of new wheels and tyres, I would go for a 20" rim. Stick with the 245/45R20 on the front - no real benefit of going wider there. And go for an equivalent diameter on the rear - maybe the 285/40R20 or 305/35R20. Although these are less common tyre sizes, and may be special order. The 275/40R20 seems to work pretty well, and is a very common tyre size.

The reason why I am considering tires with taller sidewalls, is because where I go, the roads are often hopelessly ridden with bad potholes - having had my current car flatbed to the tire shop several times. Also, it seems that the G01/08's speedometer is showing approximately 3% higher speed by default, thinking installing slightly larger tires would fix that.
Many thanks for the great inputs.

Yes they are. 245/45R20 on the front, and 275/40R20 on the rear.

I'm looking at putting 245/50/19 with 255/50/19 on a X3 M40i......anyone done that - vice a square set up using either of the sizes mentioned? Tires will be All Season.

Rims are 19x8 ET27 and 19x8.5 ET40 using a 10mm spacer.

Currently run:

Stock 21"...replaced two front tires in last year due to damage.

Winters - square 235/55/19 Rim 8.5" ET 38 (spacers on rear for looks).

This is the iX3 group. You might want to ask the question in the X3 group.
