What is the main attraction of this?
I have octopus go which gives me 4 hrs of cheap rates instead of 6, but that is easily offset by much cheaper rates in the other 18hrs compared to intelligent. I have the option of switching but trying to figure out why I’d pay more over 18hrs just to get an extra 2 hrs of cheaper electric. |

Afc6128 I’m in a similar position but with 5 cheap rate hours. I looked on the comparison app and it confirmed it was NOT worth me switching to Intelligent from my current Go Faster tariff as it would work out more expensive for my individual usage.

Octopus say it’s an issue with Enode, which handles the integration. They have so far refused to just switch me over without the test succeeding. |

I've just moved onto Intelligent Octopus and had an issue getting it to work with my Ohme charger. Following the setup it was supposed to automatically update the tariff in the Ohme app to Intelligent Octopus, but it wouldn't update it.
After a bit of faffing around it was because I was a beta tester for the app and it won't work with that. I had linked it directly to the car and put the charger in dumb mode. The problem with that is that is messes with the departure time and the preconditioning can't be set. All is setup with the Ohme controlling the charging now and is working fine. Just in case anyone else has the same issue! |

Hello,
Now that I’m switching away from shift work, I’m thinking of joining Octopus Energy to take advantage of the cheaper rates overnight. I have an iX3 M Sport and a Pod Point 3.5Kw. I’m a little hesitant when the Octopus Energy website FAQs say “We connect to your car or charging equipment through the Intelligent Octopus app”, “Smart Charging often results in multiple charges throughout the evening” and “To Smart Charge your car we’ll need to wake it up. We let your car go back to sleep (to avoid battery drain) as often as possible”. Firstly, what’s peoples experiences with connecting, is it better to connect Octopus Energy to the car, or to the charging equipment? Secondly, what’s the multiple charging all about? With a 3.5Kw Pod Point I’ll need pretty much most of the six hours overnight. Finally, how does the iX3 “wake up” overnight for charging? Is the Octopus Energy app stored in the car or managed through mobile phones? Many thanks, |

I connect through the car as my Zappi chargers is not a supported charger so have no choice.
The multiple charges thing allows small blocks of charge at various points throughout the 11:30 to 05:30 cheap to suit the estimated grid requirements. So last night I had my car charging 11:30 to 12:30, 2:30 to 3:00 and 4:30 to 5:00.

Interesting, thank you for the advice. Is this a case of ‘you get what your given’ overnight then, as that’s only taking advantage of two hours, or one third of the available six hours cheaper rate? I appreciate we all have different requirements, it’s just that two hours of charge for me on a 3.5Kw charger, isn’t going to put the 20% on the battery I’d like, only about 9%. Can you have a setting in the Octopus App that flat out charges for the full six hours, or at least manipulates the settings so the charging system thinks it needs the full six hours at the cheaper rate? Many thanks, |

No. I charge every night to 85% off a 7kWh charger. I commute 75 miles a day so depending on the weather will depend on how much charge and how many hours it will need.
If you set the BMW iDrive to 100% charge you can control in the Octopus app the level of charge you want. For example, if I know I have a long trip coming up I’ll just go into the Octopus app and set 100%. Of you want to set to charge for the full 6 hours you can, I believe, set the schedule in the BMW iDrive to hours 11.30 to 05:30. But then you will miss out on the extra times Octopus Intelligent can give you outside of the set 6 hours. If you get notified your smart schedule will charge from 11:00 for instance your whole house Electric will be discount for an extra 30 minutes.

I've recently moved to Intelligent Octopus from OVO. Everything is controlled through the Ohme charger and works really well. I have a schedule setup with the time I want the car charged by. This has to be between 0400 & 11am and the car should be plugged in after 5.30pm the night before. As others have said it automatically works out your charging slots, which may also fall outside the normal 1130 - 0530 cheap window.
For example last night I wanted the car charged by 0530 and plugged it about 10pm. The charging slots were from 10pm - 1130pm and then from 0000 to 0500. So we had an additional 1.5 hours of cheap electric for the house as well (I chucked the dishwasher, dryer and washing machine on at 10pm to make the most of it!) When I first set it up I did it via the car (giving Octopus access to my BMW account) and it worked in the same way. However it messed with the preconditioning on the departure times, so I prefer to control everything via the charger. One thing to note is that in the charging time slots it doesn't always charge at full power, but will always complete by the time you have specified. |

Signed up to IO with my new IX3. When IO sets the charging times do I need to do anything with charging times on BMW App as its states it wont override this?

Once you set the %charge and when car is needed in the octopus app, it takes care of the charging.
I also recently (2weeks) switched to IO. I had charge setting as start immediately and to 100% in the car/bmw app before switching. What I noticed is that once scheduling is done in the Octopus app, it puts some random charging time slot and some random next journey time in the car(also visible in the bmw app). I just Ignore those- Octopus starts/ stops charging sessions as shown in Octopus app. |

I've used IO for a few weeks now with the Hypervolt 3.0 charger. I leave the charger on to charge immediately (so it's effectively a dumb charger), car set to charge immediately also. In the octopus app select your departure time and percentage. Then simply plug in and IO does the rest.

Hello,
I made the switch to Intelligent Octopus, wish I’d done it sooner, at 7.5p/KWh 23:30-05:30 the savings are already making a difference to the cost of running the car. Many thanks, |

I set my 'charge by' time at 4.15am, as this tends to give more slots outside the standard 11.30pm-5.30am window. |
