Friday night at soccer I kept saying "I would have got that if I were 10 years younger" The speed has definitely dropped off, not as responsive to change in the ball trajectory. One shot, I just touched with my left hand, and knocked it down right in front of the attacker inside the 6. Wouldn't have happened 10 years ago . . .
What variety do you grow? My mother's husband has a 30 acre avocado farm outside of Escondido, and they always send us avo's and honey from the ranch for Christmas.

They grow a few Haas, because those are the ones that travel better, but they always send us a different variety. I can never remember the name.

A couple of true Hass, as well as a bacon trunk that has been chopped and grafted Hass, and then a second I never did identify that had similar treatment and is producing Hass. I think we have 5 total.

Strangely enough, what actually toppled was the nopales (cactus) that we eat. One particular section, that I know should have been pretty solid since I had watered them several times during the week, toppled just above the fence line, and into the bacon/Hass tree.

Still don't have a hive, but have been considering for a few years now.

Definitely do the hive if you can. It will help everything else on your property.

The side of the yard with southern exposure (and most of the avocados) has 3 residences just on the other side of the block wall. The open space is on the northern wall. Putting the hive in the back that gets morning sun seems like a dangerous proposition since chicken coop.

Looks like snow coming to the Oregon Cascade foothills above about 500 feet. We're at 1300 feet, so expecting multiple snow events this week. I don't think there will be much accumulation. (I hope)

Nice pic.

And yeah, they say we're getting some in SoCal too, but not enough.

The latest forecast I saw said less than an inch, at least in my area.

The 70-80kph wind gusts haven't come yet.. but we have had heavy rain all morning and now it's switched to snow. Still above freezing so it won't stick at least until later tonight.

Latest forecast is less than half an inch now over the next few days. Too bad. We need more.

Hope you get what you need, instead of too much or too little.

I lived most of my life in the Bay Area, and even in the "normal years", precipitation was all over the place. Both editions of Harold Gilliam's Weather of the San Francisco Bay Region have helped me understand the conditions behind the incredible variability of the weather in that region.

Thanks. Been tough here in SoCal lately with the drought and all. We're on outside water restrictions as well though most don't follow them. I do... our lawn is not long for this world. lol

Have you seen that they have some sort of "green" mulch that can be spread on dying lawns. I think the idea is that it maintains the green look of a lawn, and once the rain returns your grass underneath will grow back thru and eventually the mulch is fertilizer to make it even greener.

My crabgrass dies every winter, so it's not unusual for me.

Will be ripping it all out soon and replacing it with drought tolerant plants.
