I have heard the Pirelli Pzeros recommended for the X3 are not the best riding in terms of comfort and wear rate, but 6000miles is appalling.
Many have recommended using Michelin PS4S which I think is more or less fitted for a car because there is the Michelin PS4 SUV which should be for an SUV/SAV. It’s hard to find the PS4SUV for 21” as 245/40 R21 in UK. Anyone thinks PS4S will be okay on an X3/X4?

I got them from Tire Rack. They had a few variations, and I asked them about the differences, and of course they were clueless. This is what is on my order... 245/40R-21 PIRELLI P ZERO RUN FLAT (PZ4), BMW, RUN FLAT XLJust the fronts say that they are BMW-specific, whatever that means. If you look at the Pirelli website, there are apparently a zillion possible variations and 'technologies' for these tires. https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-us/...uct/new-p-zero I can't imagine how you would be able to figure out which exact variation/technologies you want, and then actually be able to find those specific ones. And also, be able to find them again, if you were to get a flat or whatever, and needed to replace just one. Maybe you need to buy them 6 at a time, so you have one extra front and back? Sounds painful! |

I've got Yoko all seasons on my F25 X3, UTOG 650 rated….30K on tires now, maybe get another 5K or so before they're done. One pays a steep price to put high performance tires on these heavy cars- |

A few cars ago I had a Kia Sportage -- which is just like an X3 except totally not at all. 😋 One benefit was I got 60,000 miles on my tires! In some ways I miss that simple -- and cheap -- thing. |

Thanks for that. It appears mine match your middle picture, the the BMW Luxury saloon PZ4, with a 320 wear rating. I just went and checked my tires, and they all have TREADWEAR 320 stamped right on them. Googling around on what treadwear ratings mean I have come to the conclusion that they mean......... nothing. They certainly don't correspond to a particular number of miles. Also after googling around I found a huge chart on Tire Rack showing the treadwear ratings and everything else, specifically for Pirelli's, specifically for BMW's, and maybe even specifically for an X3. They have 10 different variations just in my 21" size. WTF? https://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec....Flat+%28PZ4%29 |

I live in western Pennsylvania, so I'll run winters the better part of 5 months a year. That's stretch it a bit. I will say this about these tires. It's like driving a slot car. Amazing grip, even when I'm really (unnecessarily) pushing a corner (which I will surely do less now).

UPDATE on the ongoing saga: to add insult to injury, I picked up a nail in one of the tires last night. Pirelli says you can never repair their runflats...
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=226 I bought these at Tire Rack, and they come with road hazard insurance, so they should replace that one for (basically) free. Of course it would be ridiculous to run on 3 bald tire and one new one, so I should replace the others as well. So I called Tire Rack and complained about the ridiculously low mileage, and they said they would give me 25% off of new ones, and replace the other one for free, so I am only paying for 3, and at a discount. But tire prices have skyrocketed in the last few months, so paying for 3 costs more than it cost for the original 4! And of course I'll have the same stupid tires, so I'll be right back here complaining again in another few months. 😋 Also, Tire Rack does have my OEM tires, Bridgestone Alenza, but they were horrible in every way. And they have Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, but they are backordered indefinitely. So there ya go -- all options suck. The other option I had considered before was switching to 20" all around, but of course then I would need new wheels as well, and also I have no idea what-the-heck that would do to my handling. Actually the total cost for that -- for new 20" wheels, new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, and new TPMS gizmos -- would be only a few hundred dollars more than 4 new Pirelli 21" jobbies. Dang those 21's are expensive!! |

Tread ratings mean NOTHING. There is zero standard for tread rating, so one comapny may call it 300 another may call it 240. Ignore these numbers completely. Only useful case is comparing tires from the SAME manufacture as a relative garage against their other tires.
Summer performance tires on a heavy, AWD, decent HP vehicle? yea, it's going to eat tires. Drive it "like a bmw should be driven"... yea, it's REALLY going to eat tires. 6k seems really low, but not absurd depending how you drive - i'd expect you to be a hard driver with these few miles... but i regularly get 12-15k on my summer tires on my RWD E90, which is a low powered BMW. I assume you drive the car hard. Have you gone through brakes as well? If you want tread life - get no-season tires, I mean all-season tires. Most people, including most m40i drivers, will never notice a difference between a set of summer performance tires vs. a set of good all seasons (ps4 dws06)

Some thing wrong with your car there.
I'm on my second set of staggered 21" PZ4s. The first set lasted about 16K miles and I tow a caravan a few times a year with the car as well. |

Can someone please explain why I have 275/40/20 (rear) and 245/45/20 (front), why they have different profiles and dimensions? The tires are Yokohama, Y106, and lasted…here, 10k. The BMW service guy told me that my car is aggressive and that I am probably an aggressive driver. He added that I am lucky to get 10k miles out of them. What in the actual f?
So, yes, I know nothing about tires. My wife has the same tires, exact dimensions, just 106W. Does that W change anything? Can I get any other tires that will eventually last longer, I guess same dimensions? Yes, it's a 2022 X3 M40i. I get that; my wife has a 2022 X3 30i. We are talking about a performance where? On a damn I77, lol, it's not the race track, so I can't care less about "performance" I ain't going to race anyone where the speed limit is 55, and there are more troopers than mile markers. |

BMW uses a staggered setup on most of its 20 and 21 inch rims. Hence the two different tire sizes.
With 20 inch rims you have a lot of tire options. Most like the Michelin PSAS 4. You can find those in your tire size set up. Those should last you longer. W and Y are the speed ratings for the tire. W is 168 and Y is 186. Yours being the m40i it has higher speed rated tires for you to blow by all the state troopers. |

Stupid nail...
Tire Rack f'ed up and sent my tires to the wrong shop, so their mobile installer wasn't able to pick them up and bring them to my place to install them. So I could either wait nearly a week, or just go there and get them installed at America's Tire an hour away... My car inside... Installer guy... Of course I had to immediately test them out and make sure they worked Newcomb's Ranch is on Angeles Crest Highway, one of the best driving roads in the country/world. Just google it, or check out this article https://carbuzz.com/news/we-found-ou...road-in-the-us Newcomb's Ranch is out of business and falling apart, but it's for sale if you have a spare $6million laying around... https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/CA-2...e-CA/23402390/ Anyway, now I have a brand new set of the stupid tires that lasted me less than 7K miles last time. Great. |

There are some people who have gone to a square setup. I know the 19 inch rims are a square setup. Not sure on the tire size. Have you looked at all the tire options for your 20 inch rims? Just don't get high performance summer tires. Get some all seasons and you should still have performance and decent wear. You have lots of options. https://www.discounttire.com/fitmentresult/tires/sets |

First your rims are not the same size front and rear. So a 275 from the rear wouldn't be a good fit for the front rims. Likewise the 245 from the front probably wouldn't even fit on the rear rims. Stock 20s staggered: Front: 20x8 ET27 with 245/45-20 Rear : 20x9.5 ET43 with 275/40-20 In other words, to go square you will need to buy new rims. Second assuming you do go square with new rims. The 275's probably won't fit well in the front due to the suspension components. If you wanted to go beefier, you could try 255/45-20 which due to overall diameter variance from OE, would cause your speedo to show slower than your real speed. Could also try a 265/40-20, but again calling into question front suspension clearance, and now your speedo would show faster than you are going. https://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Tire...ismetric=False Honestly, just get something like a Conti DWS06Plus or a Michelin Pilot Sport AS4. You'll lose run flat, but gain pretty much everywhere else, including treadlife. |

Also (and apologies if you already know this AlexSC) - pay attention to the Treadwear Rating if your bias is toward wear longevity. If you're more interested in max grip, then you'll likely have some more fun than I on softer tires!
