I think I've finally solved this!

I took off these panels in the boot and after driving around with them off, I could no longer hear the rattle.

I applied some felt tape on all the contact points on each panel and put them back and so far, it seems to be working.

i also found an issue if you remove the rear trim by the seat belt in the rear then there is metal plate that rattles around as shown in the pic .

i put some tape on it to stop it moving and its solved that issue

My previous fix didn't work after all and the rattle came back.

The car has now been into BMW who diagnosed the fault to the offside rear seat belt. This needs replacing and I am now waiting on the part to come in.
